Reflective Writing

  • Description:What did I do?(自分が何をしたか)を具体的に示す。
  • Evidence:What went well, and how do I know?(良かったことと根拠)を分ける。
  • Challenge:What was difficult?(何が課題か)を正確に述べる。
  • Interpretation:Why did it matter?(なぜその問題が大切か)を説明する。
  • Action Plan:Next time, I will … by …(次にすることと期限)を明示する。

例えば『I spoke clearly.』という抽象的な評価は、実際の事実があるなら『I completed the two-minute rehearsal within the time limit.』

Original fictional reflection notes: A fictional student rehearsed a two-minute poster presentation about library seat use. The poster correctly listed 18, 20 and 16 occupied seats out of 24 on three weekdays. During rehearsal, the student finished within two minutes and explained the date of each reading. A peer noted that the chart lacked a clear label for ‘occupied seats’. The student has corrected the chart title but has not yet checked the final PDF on the display screen. Final submission is planned for Friday at noon.

問1:What activity does the reflection describe?

問2:State one task that went well.

問3:Which numerical information was explained correctly?

問4:What feedback identified a problem?

問5:Why could the missing label confuse viewers?

問6:What change has already been made?

問7:What remains unfinished?

問8:Give the next specific action.

問9:When should that action be completed?

問10:Write an 85–115-word reflection.

Original fictional reflection notes: A fictional student presented a proposal for reducing electricity use. During the discussion, the audience asked four questions. The student answered three using the presentation notes. The fourth question asked how much money the school would save, but the student had no verified cost data. The student said that the savings were not measured rather than inventing a figure. The follow-up research has not yet started. The next practice is scheduled for Thursday after school.

問11:What presentation activity took place?

問12:How many questions did the audience ask?

問13:How many questions were answered using notes?

問14:What information was missing for the fourth question?

問15:What did the student do correctly when that information was absent?

問16:What could be improved before the next presentation?

問17:Has the follow-up study already begun?

問18:What is the next practice time?

問19:Write a measurable preparation goal.

問20:Write a complete reflection.

Original fictional reflection notes: A fictional group invited 40 students to complete a voluntary survey about library maps. Twenty-eight responded. In the original presentation, one student described the findings as the opinions of all 40 invited students. A classmate pointed out that twelve students did not respond. The group corrected the slide to state the response rate and to limit conclusions to the 28 respondents. The group has not collected the twelve missing opinions. A final class presentation is planned for next Wednesday.

問21:What was the activity’s purpose?

問22:How many students were invited?

問23:How many valid responses were recorded?

問24:Calculate the response rate.

問25:How many people did not respond?

問26:What was incorrect in the initial presentation?

問27:What correction has already been made?

問28:What remains unknown?

問29:What should be checked before the final presentation?

問30:Write a detailed reflection.

Original fictional reflection notes: A fictional student wrote a 140-word argument about digital and printed school notices. Teacher feedback identified an unsupported statement that ‘all students preferred digital messages’ and an unclear percentage denominator. The student revised the text to 125 words, reporting that 18 of 30 survey respondents chose digital notices. The draft now says 60 percent of respondents, not 60 percent of all students. The teacher has not yet graded the revision, and the student plans to ask a classmate to check the denominator before the next submission on Monday.

問31:What was the original writing task?

問32:What did the teacher identify as the main problems?

問33:How long was the revised version?

問34:How many words were removed between versions?

問35:What evidence is reported in the revision?

問36:Calculate the correct percentage among respondents.

問37:Can the student claim that sixty percent of all students preferred digital notices?

問38:Has the teacher confirmed that the revised essay received a higher grade?

問39:What specific peer-check action is planned?

問40:Write a complete reflection that distinguishes work done from results not known.

1:It describes a two-minute rehearsal of a library-seat research poster.

2:I finished the rehearsal within the two-minute limit.

3:I presented 18, 20 and 16 occupied seats out of 24 on three weekdays.

4:A peer said the chart did not clearly label occupied seats.

5:Readers might not know whether the figures represented seats, people or visits.

6:I revised the chart title to identify the occupied-seat counts.

7:I have not checked how the final PDF looks on the presentation screen.

8:I will open the final PDF on the display screen and check the title, values and unit.

9:The check should be completed before the planned Friday-noon submission.

10:I rehearsed a two-minute research-poster talk about study-room seat use. I finished within the time limit and accurately explained the three spot checks: 18, 20 and 16 occupied seats out of 24. However, a peer pointed out that the chart label did not clearly identify the measurement. That mattered because viewers might mistake seat counts for numbers of visitors. I have corrected the chart title, but I have not yet tested the final PDF on the presentation screen. Before Friday’s noon submission, I will check the displayed title, units and values. This experience taught me that accurate numbers still need clear labels.

12:The audience asked four questions.

14:Verified information about the school’s monetary savings was unavailable.

16:I could prepare an explicit limitations note about data that have not been collected.

19:Before Thursday’s practice, I will write two possible questions about costs and prepare evidence-based responses.

20:I presented an electricity-saving proposal and received four questions from the audience. I answered three by referring to my presentation notes. The final question concerned possible financial savings, but I had no verified figures. Instead of guessing, I explained that savings had not been measured. This was an appropriate response, although I could have prepared the limitations of our evidence more clearly. The follow-up research has not begun, so I cannot report any new findings. Before Thursday’s next practice, I will write two possible cost-related questions and prepare careful answers that distinguish measured data from estimates.

21:The group surveyed students about their library-map preferences.

22:Forty students were invited.

23:Twenty-eight students responded.

24:The response rate was 70 percent.

27:The slide now reports the response rate and describes findings only for the respondents.

28:The preferences of the twelve nonrespondents remain unknown.

29:The group should ensure that every chart labels the respondent base clearly.

30:Our group surveyed forty students about library maps, and twenty-eight responded, giving a response rate of 70 percent. During our first presentation, I mistakenly described the results as the views of all invited students. A classmate reminded us that twelve students had not answered. We have now revised the slide to state the respondent base and avoid generalising beyond the data. We still do not know the nonrespondents’ preferences. Before the final presentation next Wednesday, I will review every chart and conclusion to check whether its denominator is clear. The feedback helped me distinguish collected evidence from assumptions.

31:A 140-word argument about digital and printed school notices.

32:The draft overgeneralised to all students and left the percentage denominator unclear.

33:The revised version contained 125 words.

34:The revised version was fifteen words shorter.

35:Eighteen of thirty respondents preferred digital notices.

36:Sixty percent of respondents preferred digital notices.

37:No. The survey concerned thirty respondents, not all students.

38:No. The revised essay has not yet been graded.

39:The student will ask a classmate to check the percentage denominator before Monday’s submission.

40:I revised a school-notice essay after my teacher questioned its evidence. The first draft contained 140 words and claimed that all students preferred digital messages. The survey actually showed that eighteen of thirty respondents had chosen that option. I changed the claim to ’60 percent of respondents’ and shortened the text to 125 words while keeping the relevant evidence. This made the denominator clearer, but I cannot claim that my grade improved because the revision has not been assessed. Before Monday’s next submission, I will ask a classmate to check the numerical statements and their scope.
