  • Reason / Evidence:
  • Call to Action:

Purdue Universityのライティング支援では、説得的な表現をlogos(論理・根拠)、ethos(信頼性)、pathos(聞き手の感情や価値観)から整理しています。

Everyone agrees with this. Some students may support this idea.
This will solve every problem. This could help us address one problem.
People who disagree are wrong.I understand the concern, but we could test the idea.
We should do something.Let’s try this plan for two weeks and review the results.

1|A School Event Everyone Can Join(Q1〜Q8)

[1] Imagine arriving at a school event and discovering that the only activity requires equipment you do not have. You may want to participate, yet feel that the program was designed for someone else. I would like our next school festival to offer more than one way for students to contribute. That does not mean removing every specialized activity. It means providing choices alongside them.

[2] Some students enjoy performing on a stage. Others prefer preparing signs, welcoming visitors, or writing clear information in two languages. We should ask students which roles they would like and what practical support they need, rather than deciding for them. Before changing the program, we could conduct a short survey and check whether its respondents represent different groups.

[3] One possible plan is to make a list of roles, explain any costs or equipment requirements, and offer alternatives where possible. I cannot promise that every student will enjoy every activity. But we can make the invitation clearer and give more students a fair opportunity to take part. Please help us test this plan and tell us which barriers we have missed.

Students and people planning the school festival.

To help the audience picture an exclusion problem.

Offer different ways for students to contribute.

Specialized activities can remain.

Students’ preferences and practical support needs.

I cannot promise that every student will enjoy every activity.

Help test the plan and identify barriers.

School festivals should offer more ways to contribute. Students have different interests and practical needs, so organizers should ask what roles they prefer. We cannot make every activity suitable for everyone, but clear information and alternative roles could make participation fairer. Let’s test the plan before introducing permanent changes.

2|Check a Claim Before Sharing It(Q9〜Q16)

[1] Yesterday a dramatic headline appeared in our imaginary school group chat. It said that a new timetable had been approved. Several people were ready to share it, but no message from the school was linked. I have seen how quickly a single unverified statement can change someone’s plans. We should not ask our friends to trust a claim just because many people have repeated it.

[2] Checking a claim does not require becoming suspicious of everyone. We can begin with three questions: Who made the announcement? When was it updated? Can the original source be opened? If we cannot answer them, we can say that the information has not been confirmed. This is more useful than pretending to know.

[3] Some people worry that checking every message will be slow. That is a fair concern, especially when an event is approaching. Yet a brief check can prevent repeated corrections. For our next school project, I propose that announcements include a date, an official link when available, and one person responsible for updates. Please share information carefully, and correct it openly when you discover a mistake.

An unverified claim about a changed timetable.

    解答:No.

Who announced it, when it was updated, and whether the source can be opened.

No. Verification need not mean distrusting everyone.

Checking messages can take time.

Add dates, official links, and an update owner.

Correct information openly when you discover an error.

Before sharing school announcements, check who published them and when they were updated. Repeated messages are not proof of accuracy. Although verification takes a little time, adding an official link and a clear date can prevent confusion. If you later find an error, correct it openly.

    解説:who/when/source・限定と行動の呼びかけ。

3|Making the Library Easier to Use(Q17〜Q24)

[1] Think about entering a library for the first time. You want to find a quiet reading room, but the sign gives only a room number. You might understand the words and still choose the wrong corridor. Our school’s library instructions should help readers decide what to do next, not simply provide more text.

[2] I propose testing a short guide with clearly labeled entrances, a simple route, and information in more than one form. Printed directions can help when a device is unavailable. An online version can be updated quickly when a room changes. Neither format will solve every problem. We should ask different visitors to try the draft and describe where they became confused.

[3] A small successful trial would be encouraging, but it would not prove that no visitor would ever need help. We should also check whether a guide remains accurate after changes to the building. I invite the library committee to try a two-week review, gather feedback without collecting unnecessary personal details, and publish a revised guide with a visible update date.

A sign gives a room number but not clear directions.

Test clearer library directions in different formats.

It remains useful when a device is unavailable.

It can be updated quickly when details change.

Different kinds of visitors.

    解答:No.

Try a two-week review and collect relevant feedback.

Libraries should provide clear directions that readers can follow. Printed guides help visitors without devices, while online versions allow quick updates. A two-week trial with different visitors could reveal confusing instructions. We should check the results before claiming success and publish a visible date on each revised guide.

スピーチ4|スピーチ4|Give Quieter Voices a Fair Chance(Q25〜Q32)

[1] In a group discussion, the first person to speak is not always the only person with a useful idea. Some students need time to think, and others feel more comfortable writing a suggestion before saying it aloud. Our class can make discussions more productive by offering several ways to contribute, without forcing anyone to reveal a personal reason for staying quiet.

[2] One method is to give everyone one minute to write an idea before discussion begins. Then group members can take turns reading a suggestion or inviting a question. We should make it clear that students may choose whether to read their own notes. A class representative could collect anonymous suggestions when appropriate, but should not promise that every suggestion can be adopted.

[3] Some teachers worry that extra steps will take away discussion time. That concern matters. We can begin with a short trial during one lesson and compare whether more distinct ideas are considered, rather than simply counting the loudest voices. Our goal is not to make every student speak for the same number of seconds. It is to hear useful ideas more fairly. Please try this method once and tell us what should change.

Some students’ ideas are missed in discussion.

The first speaker always has the only valuable idea.

Give everyone one minute to write an idea.

No. Students can choose whether to read their notes.

Not every suggestion can be adopted.

Extra steps might use discussion time.

Whether more distinct ideas are considered.

Every student should have a fair chance to contribute to discussions. Giving classmates time to write before speaking could make more ideas visible. Some people may still prefer not to speak, and we should respect that choice. Let’s test the method in one lesson and review the results.
