I agree that …
Claim: Every homework assignment should be submitted digitally because teachers can update instructions easily.
Opponent’s follow-up: Students can always use a school computer if they do not have a device at home.
Model: The speaker wants all homework submitted digitally because online instructions are easier to update.
Model: I agree that digital submissions can make updates easier. However, not every student can reliably access a device outside school.
Model: School computers may help, but we should also check whether students can use them when homework is due.
Model: I support using digital homework for many tasks because updates can be shared quickly. However, schools should not require it for every assignment without checking access. They could offer printed alternatives when necessary and ask students about practical difficulties before changing the rules.
Claim: Club meetings should always be online because students will not have to travel after school.
Opponent’s follow-up: Online meetings are automatically more inclusive because anyone can join from home.
Model: The speaker believes all club meetings should be online to avoid travel after school.
Model: Reducing travel can be helpful, but online meetings may be difficult for students with unstable connections.
Model: Joining from home is convenient for some students, but we cannot assume that everyone has a quiet place or reliable internet.
ポイント:anyone/everyoneという一般化の問題を指摘。
Model: Online meetings could work well for short planning sessions, especially when travel is difficult. Still, some activities require materials or face-to-face practice. Clubs could choose the format according to the task and provide clear information before each meeting rather than using one rule for everything.
Claim: Virtual museum visits should replace all school trips because they are easier to arrange.
Opponent’s follow-up: The students can see photographs online, so they would learn exactly the same things.
Model: The speaker wants virtual museum visits to replace all trips because they are easier to organize.
Model: Virtual visits can help students prepare, but they may not offer the same experience as observing real objects.
Model: Photographs are useful sources, yet seeing an object’s size and context in person may provide different information.
Model: I would use virtual museum tours to introduce a topic and help students plan questions. However, I would not replace every school trip with a screen activity. Schools could combine both formats where practical and evaluate what students actually learn instead of assuming the results are identical.
Claim: Schools should remove all uniform rules because students need to express themselves.
Opponent’s follow-up: Any uniform policy limits freedom, so no shared dress guidelines should remain.
Model: The speaker wants to remove uniform rules to allow students more personal expression.
Model: Personal expression matters, but schools may also need clear and fair rules for safety and practical activities.
Model: Rules do set limits, but the important question is whether each limit is necessary, fair, and explained.
Model: I support giving students more choices about clothing. However, removing every guideline may create new practical problems. Schools could review which rules are necessary, ask students for feedback, and allow flexible options where possible. A fair policy should explain its purpose rather than simply demand obedience.
Claim: Every student should take a smaller lunch because it will reduce food waste.
Opponent’s follow-up: If everyone eats less, the school will certainly save food.
Model: The claim assumes that every student should eat less and that this will reduce waste.
Model: Reducing waste is important, but different students have different nutritional needs.
Model: We should measure waste and offer suitable choices rather than assume that one portion size works for everyone.
Model: Schools could offer appropriate portion choices while ensuring that students receive enough food. A short trial might help staff understand which portions are suitable, but they should measure actual leftovers rather than promise results in advance. The goal should be less waste without reducing necessary nutrition.
Claim: Students will remember more vocabulary if teachers give a short quiz every day.
Opponent’s follow-up: More quizzes must always mean better learning because students practise more often.
Model: The speaker predicts that daily quizzes will improve vocabulary retention.
Model: Frequent retrieval practice may help, but the quiz design and feedback also matter.
Model: We would need to compare learning outcomes and study conditions before claiming that more quizzes always work better.
Model: Short vocabulary quizzes may help students recall words, especially when teachers review errors. However, simply increasing quiz frequency does not guarantee improvement. A class could try a realistic schedule, give useful feedback, and compare later retention while considering students’ workload. The goal is lasting learning, not just more tests.
Claim: Students should use generated pictures in every exhibition because they can make displays attractive.
Opponent’s follow-up: Visitors only care whether pictures look good, not where the information came from.
Model: The speaker assumes attractive images matter more than how the images were made or sourced.
Model: Visual materials can make an exhibition engaging, but visitors should know which images are illustrations and which are evidence.
Model: Appearance matters, but an exhibition also needs accurate information and clear attribution.
Model: Students can use original illustrations to make an exhibition easier to understand. However, they should clearly label illustrative images and avoid presenting them as historical photographs or verified evidence. They should also check permission and sources before publication. Attractive design and reliable information can support each other.
Claim: Every student should join a community clean-up activity because volunteering benefits the neighborhood.
Opponent’s follow-up: If the activity is useful, there is no reason to let anyone choose not to join.
Model: The speaker wants to help the neighborhood by requiring every student to join a clean-up.
Model: Helping the community is valuable, but students may have different needs, schedules, or safety concerns.
Model: A useful goal does not mean every method is fair or safe. We should consider alternatives and supervision.
Model: I support giving students opportunities to help their communities. Still, making one clean-up activity compulsory for everyone may overlook health, safety, or family circumstances. Schools could offer several supervised ways to contribute and let students choose appropriate roles. Community service should be meaningful and responsible, not simply compulsory.
|---|---|---|
| It may help … |
| We would need to check … |
| Some students …
| Even if …
| Rather than …
