結論｜学校英語新聞は「見出し→事実→詳しい情報→限界」の順で書く

見出し（Headline）では何が起きたかを短く示し、冒頭文（Lead）でWho／What／When／Whereを伝えます。続く本文ではWhy／Howや数字、例外を説明します。最後に「まだ決まっていないこと」もはっきり書くと、誤解のない情報になります。たとえば「図書室の利用時間を4週間試行する」のに「永久に延長される」とは書けません。

日本語メモをいきなり逐語訳するのではなく、①重要事実を四つ拾う、②短い英語の主語＋動詞にする、③前後の文の時制をそろえる、④数字・日付・許可の有無を原資料と照合する、という順番で進めます。下の4記事はそれぞれ異なる情報の正確さを練習するために作りました。

各新聞記事をまず読み、10問に回答してください。英問英答はなるべく本文根拠の一文に印を付け、英作文は模範以外の自然な英文も認めます。解答は折りたたみ式なので、問題が終わるまで開かずに練習できます。

From next Monday, the library at fictional Riverside Junior School will stay open until 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. It will still close at 5:00 p.m. on the other weekdays. The library committee proposed the change after 46 students answered a short survey. Thirty students said that they needed more time to study after club activities. The new hours will continue for four weeks as a trial. Students who wish to use the study desks after 4:30 p.m. must sign up before 4:00 p.m. on the same day. The school has not decided whether the new hours will continue after the trial.

One group explained that changing the position of a sensor helped its robot turn more smoothly. 自分の学校の英語新聞を書くための5段階

Step 1：テーマを1つに絞る。図書室・文化祭・クラブ活動のように、読者が必要とする情報を先に選びます。Step 2：事実を確認する。校内掲示や担当教員の案内などから日付・時刻・人数を確認します。Step 3：見出しと冒頭文を書く。事実を誇張せず、主語と動詞のある英語でまとめます。Step 4：補足と条件を書く。by／until／onlyなどの期限・条件は重要です。Step 5：原文と照合する。未決定のことを決定事項にしたり、最多を過半数に書き換えたりしていないか確認します。

上の例では「集まった20冊」と「交換可能な12冊」を区別し、翌月の開催を確定事項にしていません。このような情報の差が読者の信頼性を支えます。

定期テストでよくある失点と7日間の復習

よくある失点は、①時間変更前の情報を答える、②人数の母数を読み違える、③引用の発話者を取り違える、④未確定事項を断定する、⑤英作文で主語・時制を抜かす、の五つです。1〜4日目に各記事10問、5日目にQ9・10、19・20、29・30、39・40の英作文8問だけを白紙から再挑戦し、6日目に自校の公開情報をもとに見出し＋4文の短い記事を作ります。7日目は日付と数字の根拠を一つずつ再確認してください。

FAQ｜NEW TREASURE Stage2で学校新聞を作る

英語新聞の見出しは必ず完全な文にする必要がありますか？

見出しは短く表現することがありますが、学校の英作文課題で「完全な文で書く」などの指定があればそちらを優先します。まず正文で事実を確認し、それを短縮すると安全です。

他人が話した言葉をそのまま引用してもよいですか？

実際の学校新聞では相手に確認し、引用・氏名・写真の掲載に関する学校の規則や許諾に従ってください。発言を引用するときは意味を変えず、話者の意図と事実を正確に示します。

英文の語数が足りないときはどうすればよいですか？

事実に基づく日時・場所・理由・条件を追加します。決まっていない内容や存在しない人数を加えて語数だけ増やすのは避けてください。学校に語数指定がある場合は、その条件を満たすよう構成を調整します。
