I read a short story called … あらすじ:The main character … 感想:I liked … 根拠:I think so because …

短編1|The Last Library Card(最後の図書カード)

Mika loved reading adventure stories, but she often chose books only because their covers looked exciting. One Friday, she found a small blue book called The Last Library Card. Its cover showed only a desk and an old card. She almost put it back. Then the librarian told her that the story was about a boy who had to decide whether to return a lost card or keep it. Mika borrowed the book and read it over the weekend. At first, she thought the boy would keep the card. Instead, he returned it and helped its owner find an important letter. Mika liked this ending because it showed that a small honest action could help someone. On Monday, she recommended the book to her friend Taro. She explained the main event without telling him every detail of the ending.

Riku and Sara found an old map while cleaning their classroom. It showed two paths from a village to a small museum. One path was shorter, but it crossed a narrow wooden bridge. The other path was longer and followed a wide road. In the story they were reading for class, a traveler chose the short path without checking the bridge. After heavy rain, he discovered that the bridge was closed. He had to return to the village and take the wide road. Sara said the traveler should have checked the latest information before leaving. Riku agreed, but he added that the traveler had learned from his mistake. At the end, the traveler arrived late and apologized to the museum guide. The story never says that the wide road is always safer in every season. The two classmates wrote separate reviews, because they wanted to explain their different reactions.

短編3|The Smallest Garden(いちばん小さな庭)

Nana joined a gardening group at her school. Each member received one small plant to look after for a month. Nana chose a flower that did not look as tall as the others. She kept a notebook and measured its height every Friday. During the second week, the leaves became yellow. Nana was worried, so she asked the school gardener what might be wrong. The gardener suggested checking the soil before adding more water. Nana followed the advice and moved the pot away from a place where rainwater collected. Two weeks later, the plant had new green leaves. Nana was happy, but she did not say that her action alone had caused the change. The group did not compare similar plants under controlled conditions. For her science journal, Nana wrote that patient observation was more useful than guessing from the appearance of a plant.

短編4|The Promise in a Notebook(ノートに書かれた約束)

Leo and Mai were preparing a short presentation about the history of their neighborhood. Leo wanted to use a photo from his grandfather’s notebook. The photo showed an old shopping street, but it had no date. Mai suggested using it in their presentation and saying that it was taken fifty years ago. Leo was not sure. Instead of guessing, they asked his grandfather. He said that he remembered taking the photo, but he could not remember the exact year. The students decided to show the photo with the caption ‘An old photo of the shopping street; exact date unknown.’ They also found a recent photo of the same street and wrote about two visible differences. During the presentation, another student asked why they had not given a year. Leo explained that a clear ‘unknown’ was better than a confident but unsupported date. Their teacher praised them for checking the evidence.

The story is about …(この物語は〜についての話です)、At first …, but later …(最初は〜、しかし後で〜)、I was surprised that …(〜に驚きました)、I recommend this story because …(〜という理由で勧めます)。

I read The Last Library Card, a short story about an important choice. At first, the main character seems likely to keep a card he finds. However, he decides to return it and helps another person. I liked the ending because it showed that an honest action can make a difference. The story made me think about how small decisions affect others. I would recommend it to students who enjoy stories about everyday choices.

I think he is a good person.
