③ percentage points(パーセントポイント)=2つの割合の差。 ④ registered(登録)と attended(参加)は違います。⑤ reported / may / had not proved / planned

A town library organized a reading festival every autumn. Two hundred people attended in 2024, and 260 attended in 2025. Library staff said the increase was encouraging, but they did not know whether the publicity campaign alone had attracted the additional visitors.

In 2026, attendance fell to 234. Although that was fewer than in 2025, it was still higher than in 2024. For the 2026 festival, 300 people had registered in advance, so not everyone who registered actually came. Some families reported that heavy rain had prevented them from traveling.

The library plans to ask registered visitors why they did or did not attend. Its director said that registration figures and attendance should be reported separately, and that weather could affect any year-to-year comparison.

問1|How many people attended the 2025 festival?

A. 200 / B. 234 / C. 260 / D. 300

正解:C.260

Some parents focused on the fact that the number of students requesting smaller portions had risen. Teachers pointed out that the total number of survey respondents had also changed. The share choosing smaller portions rose from 35 percent to 45 percent, a difference of ten percentage points.

registered, downloaded, booked と attended, used, actually visited を区別してください。
