増減表現を長文で使う：英検準2級プラス長文の割合・前年比・増減を読む独自32問で、実人数と比率を分けて読みましょう。
結論｜riseとraise、byとto、％とポイントの違い
- rise（自動詞）：The price rose.（価格が上がった）。過去形rose、過去分詞risen。
- raise（他動詞）：The company raised the price.（会社が価格を引き上げた）。
- increase / decrease：自動詞・他動詞の両方になり得ます。例：Sales increased / The program increased sales。
- by 10%：元の数値に対して10％分増減した。to 10%：最終的な割合が10％になった。
- percentage points：25％から35％は10ポイント増、相対的な増加率は40％増。
- 原因と相関：変化が起きても、施策だけの効果とは限りません。
割合の計算例｜よくある長文の誤読
20人→30人は10人増（増加率50％）。25％→35％は10パーセントポイント増（相対的な増加率40％）。100円→90円は10円減（減少率10％）。母数・単位・比較対象が何なのかを確認してから選択肢を判定します。なお、本教材の数値は慶英会が作成した仮想の練習場面です。

第3部｜オリジナル長文2本・内容理解8問
学校の図書館と地域清掃を題材にした英文です。本文の数字は仮想の教材用数値です。増加率だけでなく、比較対象と改善の因果関係を必ず確認してください。
長文1｜学校図書館の利用率と数字の読み方
A junior high school introduced a quiet study hour at its library. Before the change, 25 percent of students visited the library at least once a week. Three months later, the share had risen to 35 percent. The school reported an increase of ten percentage points, not a ten percent increase. Teachers were pleased, but they did not claim the study hour alone had caused the change. During the same period, the school had also purchased new books and offered longer weekend opening hours. The school therefore planned to compare attendance across different days and ask students why they came. The report also noted that the total number of students at the school had stayed almost the same.

中学校は図書館に静かな学習時間を設けました。導入前には、週1回以上訪れる生徒は25％でした。3か月後には35％になりました。学校はこれを10％増ではなく10パーセントポイント増と報告しました。先生たちは喜びましたが、この変化が学習時間の導入だけによるものとは主張しませんでした。同じ時期に新しい本の購入や週末開館時間の延長も行われていたからです。学校は曜日別の来館状況を比較し、生徒に来館理由を聞く予定でした。また全校生徒数はほぼ変わっていませんでした。
長文2｜ごみの量と参加者数は同じ意味ではない
A local group organized clean-up activities along a river. In the first month, 40 volunteers collected 120 bags of litter. In the second month, 50 volunteers collected 100 bags. The number of volunteers increased by 25 percent, while the number of bags collected fell by about 17 percent. Some residents thought this proved that the river had become cleaner. However, the organizers warned that the amount collected depended on how long volunteers worked and which areas they covered. The second event had lasted only two hours, compared with four hours for the first event. To understand the results better, the group decided to record working hours and the locations cleaned in future events.

復習方法｜英検準2級プラスの初見読解で使う
- 当日：4択20問で「自動詞か他動詞か」と「数値の幅か到達点か」を区別できたかを確かめる。
- 翌日：rise–rose–risen、raise–raised–raisedを例文で音読し、誤文訂正8問を白紙で再現する。
- 3日後：本文の人数・割合・単位に下線を引き、「何から何へ変わったか」を日本語で説明する。
- 1週間後：長文の「変化は確かだが原因は未確定」という説明を英語で1文作る。
よくある質問
Q. increaseとriseは同じですか？ 数量が増加する文脈では近い意味で使われますが、increaseは他動詞にもなり、riseは基本的に自動詞です。
Q. 20％から30％は10％増ですか？ 10パーセントポイント増です。元の20％を基準とした相対的増加率は50％です。
Q. decrease by 10%とdecrease to 10%はどう違いますか？ byは減少幅、toは到達水準を示します。
Q. グラフの値が増えれば政策の効果が証明できますか？ 必ずしも証明できません。ほかの施策、期間、対象人数なども確認してください。
