「60 percent of all students」「60 percent of visitors」へ広げてはいけません。
West Hill School wanted to learn how students felt about an optional reading app. The school sent a questionnaire to 200 students. By Friday, 120 had replied. Of those who answered, 72 said they preferred using the app, while the other 48 preferred reading printed books.
Some teachers said that 60 percent of respondents preferred the app. They also pointed out that 80 students had not answered the questionnaire. As a result, they could not say that 60 percent of all 200 students preferred the app.
The school planned to offer both formats during a short trial. It had not yet decided whether the app would become a regular part of homework. After the trial, staff would compare students’ feedback with how often they actually read.

A town invited 300 households to try a water-saving program. Of those invited, 180 registered. However, only 120 households sent the town their water-use records after the first month. The other registered households had not submitted complete data.
Among the 120 households that sent records, 75 reported using less water than in the previous month. Forty-five did not report a reduction. Officials said this was 62.5 percent of the households that had provided records, not 62.5 percent of all households invited.
The town explained that weather and changes in family routines could also affect water use. It had not tested whether the program alone caused the reported reduction. The trial would continue, and the town would ask more households to share complete records.

FAQ
