A group of grocery stores decided to test returnable food containers. Customers paid a small deposit when borrowing a container and received that deposit back when they returned it. Supporters hoped that the scheme would reduce the number of disposable packages. After the first month, the stores reported that about seventy percent of the containers handed out had been returned. However, the figure did not show how many times each container could eventually be reused. Staff also had to spend time checking and cleaning the containers. Some stores therefore suggested expanding the trial, while others wanted to review cleaning costs first. The group agreed to collect information for two more months before deciding whether to introduce the system at every branch. The store managers said they were encouraged by the initial returns but could not yet calculate the total environmental or financial benefits.

Two independent bookstores used to send separate delivery vans through nearby neighborhoods. Managers wondered whether sharing some routes would reduce unnecessary travel. For six weeks, they tested a schedule in which one van carried orders from both stores to a limited area. The van traveled fewer kilometers than the two vehicles had previously traveled together. Nevertheless, several customers reported that their books arrived later in the afternoon than expected. The managers also found that staff needed additional time to organize orders from the two businesses. They decided to keep the shared route only in the trial area while examining the actual cost of fuel, staffing, and customer service. Although the results suggested that some travel could be avoided, the bookstores have not announced a permanent shared delivery service. They plan to seek feedback from customers who were unhappy with the later deliveries.

A neighborhood repair service introduced online appointments for customers bringing in small household appliances. Previously, people usually arrived without notice and sometimes waited for a long time before speaking with a technician. During an initial trial, customers who booked appointments spent less time waiting at the reception desk on average. However, the service did not measure the waiting time of people who arrived without appointments, and it did not test whether repairs themselves were completed faster. Some customers said they preferred to explain a problem in person instead of filling out an online form. The manager therefore kept the walk-in option and asked staff to assist people who could not use the website. Before making any further changes, the business plans to measure waiting times for both booked and walk-in visits. The manager sees the system as a possible improvement rather than proof that all customers receive faster service.

Q11. Whose waiting time was measured as shorter during the trial?
A. All customers without appointments
B. Only customers whose appliances were repaired immediately
C. Every customer at all times
D. Customers who had booked appointments

A manufacturing company wanted new employees to learn basic safety procedures before using certain machines. It introduced short online lessons that workers could complete at different times. The company also continued to require a practical session supervised by an experienced instructor. After the first training period, most respondents to an employee survey said that the online materials were convenient. Yet the survey was voluntary, and not every trainee answered it. The company had also not compared the long-term performance of staff trained by different methods. Some supervisors argued that the online lessons would eventually replace all classroom training, but the training manager rejected that interpretation. Online materials were designed to explain general rules, whereas hands-on supervision remained necessary for practicing machine operations. The company plans to revise confusing videos and monitor learning outcomes before changing its overall training requirements.

A local produce shop changed some price labels so that customers could compare costs per one hundred grams rather than only prices per package. The owner hoped this would make comparisons easier when products came in different sizes. During the first two weeks, staff noticed that customers asked fewer questions about weight-based prices. On the other hand, several customers confused the price per one hundred grams with the price of an entire package. The shop responded by printing both figures in different positions on each label and giving staff a short explanation to use when asked. The owner plans to check whether the revised signs reduce misunderstandings. The shop has not claimed that the new labels make every product cheaper or that all customers now understand the prices. Its immediate aim is clearer information, not a guaranteed change in how much shoppers spend.

A community theater began offering recordings of some performances so that people who could not attend in person could still enjoy them. The online versions included optional captions. The theater reported that several hundred digital tickets were purchased during the trial period. This number showed interest in the recordings but did not tell the organizers whether the service was profitable. Preparing captions, checking the sound, and maintaining the video platform all required additional resources. Some audience members said they preferred the live atmosphere of the theater and did not want online access to replace stage performances. The management therefore decided to continue in-person shows while reviewing the costs and audience needs of digital distribution. It will also ask viewers about the usefulness of captions. A decision about expanding the number of streamed performances will be made after the review, not simply because digital tickets have been sold.
