英検4級のthis・that・these・those練習40問｜指示語・単数複数・長文【全解答】

英検4級で『This is my book.』は分かっても『These are my books.』『That bag is mine.』『Those shoes are old.』を取り違えると、語句空所補充・会話・長文で得点を落とします。this・thatは単数、these・thoseは複数が基本で、話し手との距離や文脈によって使い分けます。慶英会では指示語this・that・these・thoseの独自40問、全解答、独自長文3題、14日間の復習をまとめました。学校英語の定期テストにも活用できる無料教材です。

最初の結論：『近く／遠く』と『単数／複数』の2軸で決めます。近くの一つはthis、遠くの一つはthat、近くの複数はthese、遠くの複数はthoseです。this/thatの主語にはis、these/thoseにはareを使います。ただし、会話や文章で『話題として近い／遠い』という意味で使われる場合もあるため、設問の場面設定を優先してください。

英検4級の公式出題形式と本教材の役割

日本英語検定協会の4級試験内容では、短文15問・会話文5問・語句整序5問・長文10問がリーディング35分に含まれ、リスニングは約30分です。指示語だけの独立した大問はありません。以下の40問は慶英会が独自制作した補助演習で、実際の公式過去問の転載や出題割合の再現ではありません。公式4級過去問・音声も併用してください。

『this books』『those book』『these is』は、指示語・名詞・動詞の数が一致しません。『this book』『these books』『that pen』『those pens』と一組で確認しましょう。thisとthatは、こちらに近い物と向こうにある物を指すことが基本です。

英語の指示語を判断する3段階

• 1. 名詞の単数／複数を確認：a bookなのかtwo booksなのかを読む
• 2. 話し手に近いhere/by my handなのか、遠いover there/across the roomなのかを確認する
• 3. is/are・it/they・one/onesなど、その後の文の数と一致するか確かめる

例：『These two photos here are mine, but those three photos on the wall are yours.』は、手元の写真2枚は私のもの、壁の写真3枚は相手のものという対比です。thoseだけを見て『それら』と訳すのでなく、後ろの数と場所を結び付けることが重要です。
