Source B observed …
Source A says digital maps are better. Source B says printed maps are better. Source A found a preference for digital maps among respondents, while Source B recorded slightly more successful navigation attempts with printed maps in a small trial.
Source A: A school invited 80 students to complete an optional online survey about library maps. Fifty responded. Of these, 35 preferred a digital map and 15 preferred printed maps. The organisers reported that 70 percent of respondents favoured digital access. They did not collect the opinions of 30 students who did not respond. The survey asked about preferences, not whether students could successfully use either map.
Source B: A separate trial asked 12 volunteer visitors to find the library’s reading room. Ten succeeded using a printed map, and eight succeeded using a QR-code map. The visitors were allowed to try both formats, and their order was not varied systematically. Two said that their devices had connection problems. These observations are not a representative test of all visitors, and the trial did not measure which map was faster.
Source A: A school transport committee compared the average time students spent on a bus before and during a one-week trial route. For 50 participating students, the recorded average fell from 30 minutes to 24 minutes. The committee reported a six-minute reduction in average bus time. It did not record each student’s individual bus time or the complete door-to-door journey. Traffic conditions differed between the two measurement periods.
Source B: An optional follow-up survey asked the same 50 participating students whether the stop was convenient. Forty responded; 18 said that the new stop was farther from home, 12 said it was closer, and 10 reported no difference. The survey did not measure actual walking minutes. Some respondents said that a shorter bus ride might not mean a shorter total journey.
Source A: At a fictional school, staff measured indoor air temperature at 1 p.m. in two classrooms on the same day. Room A, below a small roof garden, measured 25°C; Room B, in another section of the building, measured 28°C. The rooms had different window positions and occupancy levels. Only one reading was taken in each room. The school did not measure heat transfer through the roof, and it could not attribute the difference to the garden alone.
Source B: A separate planning note estimated a one-time setup cost of 90,000 yen for the roof garden and an annual maintenance budget of 18,000 yen. These were estimates, not verified expenses. The note provided no electricity-bill data or comparison with a building without a roof garden. Staff planned to review watering needs and safety before considering any expansion.
Source A: Twenty-four students from a fictional class volunteered to try a four-week review routine. The group’s average English quiz score rose from 55 to 68 points. Nineteen students improved, while five had unchanged or lower scores. The weekly quizzes were not identical, and some students used other study materials. There was no separate comparison group. The teachers considered the results encouraging but could not establish the routine’s independent effect.
Source B: A later feedback form asked the same twenty-four volunteers whether the routine was easy to follow. Twenty-two responded. Fifteen said the short tasks were manageable, five found them difficult to fit around other homework, and two chose ‘not sure’. The form did not ask about quiz scores, and no nonparticipant feedback was collected. Ease of following a routine does not necessarily establish improvement in learning.
1:Both sources examine how visitors could use library maps.
2:Fifty of the eighty invited students responded to the survey.
3:Thirty-five of fifty respondents, or 70 percent, preferred the digital map.
4:In the twelve-person trial, ten succeeded with paper maps and eight with QR-code maps.
5:Source A measured preferences; Source B observed task completion with two map formats.
6:Neither source establishes which format works best for all visitors.
7:The same volunteers tried both maps, but the order was not systematically varied.
8:A majority preferred digital maps, while slightly more volunteers completed the task with paper maps; preference and success are different measures.
9:Digital maps appealed to most survey respondents, but a separate small trial did not establish that they were more usable than printed maps.
10:An optional online survey found that 35 of 50 respondents preferred digital library maps, although the views of 30 nonrespondents were unknown. A separate trial with 12 visitors measured whether people could find a room: ten succeeded using a printed map and eight using a QR-code map. These results do not necessarily conflict because a stated preference is different from successful navigation. The trial used the same volunteers for both formats without systematically changing the order, so its findings are limited. The school could test both formats with a wider range of visitors before removing printed guidance.
11:Both sources concern the possible benefits and limitations of a new bus route.
12:Average bus time fell from 30 to 24 minutes during the trial.
13:The average bus ride was 20 percent shorter.
14:Forty of the fifty participating students answered the follow-up survey.
15:Eighteen respondents said the new stop was farther from home.
16:Source A measured time on the bus, while Source B asked about stop convenience rather than timing the walk.
17:Neither source shows that every student’s full journey was 20 percent shorter.
18:The follow-up survey had an 80 percent response rate.
19:The new route shortened recorded average bus time, but its effect on total journeys remains uncertain because walking time was not measured.
20:A one-week trial of a new bus route found that average bus time among 50 participants fell from 30 to 24 minutes, a 20 percent reduction. However, that measurement excluded the journey to and from bus stops. In a follow-up survey, 40 students responded, and 18 said the new stop was farther from home. The survey did not time their walks. Consequently, the shorter average ride does not establish that everyone’s door-to-door journey improved. A useful next step would be to measure total travel time under comparable traffic conditions before adopting the route permanently.
21:Both sources examine a roof garden’s possible benefits and practical costs.
22:Room A measured 25°C, while Room B measured 28°C.
23:The recorded difference was 3°C.
24:The rooms differed in windows and occupancy, and only one reading was taken in each.
25:The estimated setup cost was 90,000 yen.
26:The estimated annual maintenance budget was 18,000 yen.
27:Under the stated simplifying assumption, setup plus five annual maintenance budgets would total 180,000 yen.
28:The sources provide neither verified actual expenses nor electricity-bill savings.
29:The classrooms had different recorded temperatures, while projected garden costs were available, but the garden’s independent effect and financial return were unproven.
30:One school recorded an indoor temperature of 25°C below a roof garden and 28°C in another classroom on a single afternoon. The rooms differed in window conditions and occupancy, so the 3°C gap cannot be attributed to the garden alone. A separate planning document estimated setup at 90,000 yen and annual maintenance at 18,000 yen, but these figures were budgets rather than actual costs. Neither source measured electricity savings, making a financial benefit impossible to establish. Before expanding the garden, the school would need repeated, comparable temperature readings and verified information about safety, maintenance and costs.
31:Both sources examine a short review routine and its outcomes for volunteers.
32:The average quiz score increased by 13 points, from 55 to 68.
33:Five of the twenty-four participants did not record higher scores.
34:There was no separate comparison group.
35:Twenty-two of twenty-four volunteers responded, or about 91.7 percent.
36:Fifteen respondents found the tasks manageable.
37:Five respondents found it difficult to fit the tasks around other homework.
38:That conclusion is unsupported because the surveys measured ease of use and scores separately without linking individual responses.
39:Average quiz scores rose in the trial, and many respondents found the routine manageable, but the data do not prove a causal learning benefit.
40:In a four-week trial with twenty-four volunteers, the group’s average English quiz score rose from 55 to 68 points, although five students did not improve. Different quizzes, other study materials and the absence of a comparison group limit causal conclusions. A separate feedback survey received twenty-two replies: fifteen found the tasks manageable, five had difficulty fitting them around homework, and two were unsure. These responses concern convenience rather than measured learning outcomes. The evidence suggests that the routine may be practical for some students, but a better-controlled trial and feedback from nonparticipants are needed before claiming it improves scores.
