NEW TREASURE Stage3の意見英作文で『〜だとは思わない』と書くとき、I don’t think … I hope it won’t rain.(雨が降らないことを望む)をI don’t hope it will rain.
結論|thinkはI don’t think …、hopeはI hope … notが基本
|---|---|---|
| 〜だとは思わない | I don’t think the plan will work.
| 〜だとは信じない | I don’t believe the results are accurate.
| 〜しないことを望む | I hope the event won’t be canceled.
| 短い否定の予想 | I don’t think so.
| 短い否定の希望 | I hope not.
Cambridge Grammar|Negation of think, believe, suppose, hopeで確認できます。
I don’t think he is right.(彼が正しいとは思わない)とI think he is not right.(彼は正しくないと思う)は多くの文脈で近い意味ですが、否定の焦点や話し手の確信の強さに違いが生じる場合があります。特にI don’t think everyone agrees.
I don’t think so と I hope not の違い
|---|---|---|
| Will the plan work? | I don’t think so.
| Will the event be canceled? | I hope not.
| Will the survey be useful? | I hope so.
| Do you think the plan will work? | I don’t think so.
注意:I hope not. I hope not to miss the deadline. I don’t hope so.

Taro agreed but added, “I hope we don’t remove the original data, because someone may need to check it later.” The teacher said, “I don’t expect every visitor to understand all the technical details. Please explain the main result simply.” The students revised the chart and wrote a short summary.

A|Q1〜12
Q1:I don’t think the plan will work.
Q2:I hope it won’t rain tomorrow.
Q3:I don’t think so.
Q4:I hope not.
Q5:The teacher doesn’t believe the results are reliable.
Q6:I don’t think this is enough evidence.
Q7:We hope it doesn’t rain.
Q8:I don’t think he will be late.
Q9:I don’t believe the number is correct.
Q10:I don’t expect them to finish this week.
Q11:I don’t suppose the idea is realistic.
理由:suppose+that節。
Q12:I hope the teacher explains it again.
B|Q13〜22
Q13:I hope the event won’t be canceled.
Q14:I hope the students won’t be late.
解説:hope not the students …
Q15:I don’t think anyone has replied.
I don’t think that nobody has replied. I don’t think anyone has replied.
Q16:I don’t think the map is correct.
Q17:She doesn’t believe the graph is accurate.
Q18:I don’t think the plan will succeed.
I don’t think so.
Q19:I hope the new test isn’t difficult.
Q21:I don’t believe it works.
解説:hope not to+動詞原形は可能。I don’t hope to …
