At a fictional high school, students often waited for a bus outside the main gate. In summer, the waiting area received strong afternoon sunlight. The student council proposed temporary shade panels. With the school’s permission, the panels were installed for four weeks. They were used only on afternoons when the temperature exceeded 25 degrees Celsius. Sixty students were invited to comment, and forty-two returned a short questionnaire. Thirty respondents said they felt more comfortable while waiting. However, the council did not record the exact temperature or waiting time for each respondent. Some students also used a different bus stop during the trial. The school decided to extend the test for another month rather than install permanent panels immediately. It asked the council to compare conditions on similar days and check whether the panels would block emergency access. The trial suggested a possible benefit, but it did not establish how much the panels changed the experience of every student.
Q1. Why did the council propose shade panels?
Q2. How long were the panels tested initially?
Q3. Under what weather condition were the panels used?
Q4. How many students returned the questionnaire?
Q5. What evidence suggested that the shade might be useful?
Q6. Why could the council not calculate each student’s exact exposure to heat?
Q7. Did all invited students use the same bus stop during the trial?
Q8. Why did the school avoid immediate permanent installation?
Q9. What safety issue would the school examine?
Q10. What conclusion is NOT supported by the passage?
Passage B|
A student environmental team wanted to reduce the number of disposable bottles used at school. It asked the principal to allow a refill station near the gym. The station opened for a six-week pilot program. Students could fill their own reusable bottles without paying, but the station did not supply bottles. During the first week, the team recorded eighty refills; during the sixth week, it recorded one hundred and twenty. The records counted refilling events, not unique users. The team also surveyed forty volunteers, twenty-six of whom said they were carrying reusable bottles more often than before. The school did not count the number of disposable bottles purchased or thrown away during the pilot. Maintenance staff reported that the station needed cleaning twice a day. In its report, the team recommended continuing the program while measuring waste and maintenance costs more carefully. It avoided claiming that the program had already reduced plastic waste by fifty percent.
Q11. What problem did the environmental team hope to address?
Q12. Where was the refill station placed?
Q13. What did students need to bring?
Q14. How long did the pilot last?
Q15. How did refill counts change between the first and sixth weeks?
Q16. Why can the team not know the exact number of users from these counts?
Q17. How many survey volunteers reported more frequent reusable-bottle use?
Q18. What important outcome was not measured?
Q19. What daily maintenance did the station require?
Q20. Why would a claim of a fifty-percent waste reduction be unjustified?

Passage C|
A school library noticed that some visiting families had difficulty understanding its borrowing rules. The librarian prepared short guides in five languages, using the same basic information about library cards, loan periods and returning books. Twelve volunteer parents checked the first versions. Four volunteers found unclear wording in one of the translations, so the librarian corrected it before distribution. The guide was tested with a small group, not with every family at the school. The library placed paper copies at the entrance and digital versions on its website. Later, staff counted fifty downloads but could not tell how many separate households had used the guide. A few families asked for an audio version, which was not yet available. The librarian decided to collect more feedback and investigate audio access rather than announce that the translation project was complete. She also reminded staff that a translated guide should not override the latest official library regulations.
Q21. Why did the librarian prepare guides in several languages?
Q22. What three kinds of information did the guides cover?
Q23. How many languages were used?
Q24. Who checked the first versions?
Q25. What did four volunteers discover?
Q26. When was the unclear wording corrected?
Q27. Where could families obtain the two formats?
Q28. Why do fifty downloads not mean fifty separate families?
Q29. What additional format did some families request?
Q30. Which rules take precedence if a translated guide conflicts with them?
Passage D|
A science club at a fictional high school studied whether a small rain garden could help water drain after storms. The club chose two nearby areas: one with a rain garden and one with an ordinary paved surface. Students observed water remaining at each site after six rainy afternoons. On four of those afternoons, they noted less standing water near the garden. However, the two areas differed in size and slope, and rainfall was not measured separately at each site. The project therefore could not isolate the garden’s effect from every other factor. The club’s report described the observation as encouraging, not conclusive. It recommended collecting data from more locations and comparing rainfall, slope and surface area before proposing a larger project. The club also stated that a rain garden would not replace the need to inspect drains and maintain existing flood protection. The school agreed to continue observation but did not approve construction of another garden yet.
Q31. What did the science club want to investigate?
Q32. Which two types of areas were compared?
Q33. On how many rainy afternoons were observations made?
Q34. What happened on four of the afternoons?
Q35. What two site characteristics differed?
Q36. What rainfall information was missing?
Q37. Why did the club avoid a conclusive claim?
Q38. What additional data did the club recommend collecting?
Q39. What maintenance would still be necessary?
Q40. Did the school approve building another rain garden?
