stem from・arise from・attributable toの比較

The problem stemmed from an unclear notice.
S arise from BBからSが発生するSeveral questions arose from the change.
S be attributable to BSがBのために生じたとされるThe increase was attributable to extra printing.
attribute A to BAの原因をBと考えるThe report attributed the difference to weather.
may stem from BBによる可能性があるThe difference may stem from different study times.
The organiser raised a question.

A question arose. The teacher raised a question.

The report attributed the difference to sunlight.

第2部:初見英文A(問17〜22)

A disagreement about the deadline(架空事例)

A fictional school club sent two reminders about a Friday deadline. The official instruction required forms by 3 p.m., but one informal message said only ‘Friday afternoon’. Five students assumed that submitting by 5 p.m. would be acceptable. The club leader thought the misunderstanding stemmed from the vague wording, although the intention of the person who wrote the message was not known. A question arose during the next meeting about whether late forms could be considered. The teacher checked the approved instruction and confirmed the 3 p.m. deadline. The five late forms were referred to a separate review, but no decision about their acceptance had been announced. The club revised future messages to include the exact day and time.

Two gardens and two possible causes(架空事例)

In a fictional science class, two groups of seedlings were observed for three weeks. The average plant height was fourteen centimetres in Garden A and eleven in Garden B. One student attributed the three-centimetre difference to sunlight. However, Garden A also received water every morning, while Garden B was watered every other morning. The teacher noted that the difference might stem from the amount of light, the watering schedule, or both. The available observations could not separate those influences. The class planned another trial using the same watering schedule for both gardens. The teacher encouraged students to state an explanation as a possibility rather than a proven cause until the new evidence was available.

第4部:初見英文C(問29〜34)

A revised project budget(架空事例)

A fictional student media team expected to spend 10,000 yen on a project. After the event, actual spending reached 13,500 yen. The treasurer checked the receipts and found 2,000 yen of extra printing costs and 1,500 yen of equipment rental that had not been included in the estimate. Those two expenses accounted for the entire 3,500-yen difference. A student described the overrun as the result of ‘poor planning’ without identifying the expenses. The teacher asked for a more precise explanation based on receipts rather than a general judgement. The revised report showed the two causes separately. It did not suggest that any money had been stolen or that every future project would incur the same costs.

第5部:初見英文D(問35〜40)

The missing digital forms(架空事例)

A fictional library used an online form for reserving study desks. Thirty requests appeared in the system, while eight students complained that their requests were missing. When the librarian investigated, six of those requests were found in a separate folder created after a software update. The other two students had closed the page before pressing the submit button, so those requests had never been sent. The missing entries therefore arose from two different processes, not one. The librarian recovered the six saved requests, bringing the number of successfully submitted forms to thirty-six. The library changed its instructions to explain the final submission button and the confirmation message. It also planned a further check before reporting the final number of reservations.
