cast doubt onは「〜に疑問を生じさせる」、call … into questionは「〜の妥当性を疑わせる」、raise questions aboutは「〜について疑問を提起する」です。

cast doubt on・call into question・raise questions・disproveの違い
|---|---|---|
| cast doubt on+名詞 | 確かさに疑問を生じさせる | The missing records cast doubt on the estimate. |
| call+名詞+into question | 妥当性・正確さを疑わせる | The change calls the original conclusion into question. |
| raise questions about | 疑問や検討事項を生み出す | The report raised questions about the method. |
| challenge a claim | 主張に異議を唱える | The reviewer challenged the claim. |
| disprove / refute | 誤りを示す・反証する | The attendance sheet disproved the claim that all attended. |
| verify / support | 照合して確認する/根拠で支える | The records support the reported total. |
The short test casts doubt on the claim. The count disproved the claim that all forty attended.

第2部|独自英文A(問25〜30)
A reading-speed claim(架空の学校事例)
A fictional school compared the time needed for a reading exercise. Last week’s task took thirty minutes on average, while this week’s took twenty-four. A student claimed that a new reading technique had saved six minutes per task. The difference in the averages was correctly calculated. However, the teacher noticed that this week’s text was shorter and had fewer unfamiliar words. Those differences cast doubt on the claim that the technique alone caused the time saving. They did not disprove that the technique might be useful. The class planned another comparison using texts of similar length and difficulty, and the teacher warned against treating a plausible explanation as a proven cause.
第3部|独自英文B(問31〜36)
A survey with a generalisation(架空の学校事例)
A fictional library asked twenty-four student volunteers whether they preferred printed books to digital files. Eighteen selected printed books, and six selected digital files. The librarian correctly wrote that seventy-five per cent of those volunteers preferred print. A second sentence claimed that seventy-five per cent of all students at the school preferred print. A reviewer challenged the second sentence because the respondents had volunteered and had not been selected to represent the whole school. This limitation raised questions about whether the figure applied to all students. It did not cast doubt on the recorded count of eighteen among the twenty-four respondents. The team removed the unsupported generalisation and kept the accurately reported sample result.
第4部|独自英文C(問37〜42)
An attendance correction(架空の学校事例)
A fictional club announced that all forty registered students had attended a presentation. After checking a second sign-in sheet, the teacher found that three of those students had not arrived. There were thirty-seven recorded attendees. The new evidence disproved the claim that all forty registered students had attended, rather than merely casting doubt on it. The organiser issued a correction and explained the difference between registration and attendance. The correction did not establish why the three students were absent, since no reasons were recorded. The teacher asked the students to avoid inventing explanations for the absence and to give the source of the revised count.
第5部|独自英文D(問43〜48)
A science display review(架空の学校事例)
A fictional science club placed seedlings under two lamps and reported their average height after three weeks. The group using a brighter lamp reached thirteen centimetres, while the group with a dimmer lamp reached eleven. The students concluded that stronger light had caused the whole difference. During review, the teacher learned that the brighter group had also received water every day, but the other group had been watered every other day. This inconsistency called the causal explanation into question. However, the recorded averages were not shown to be false. The teacher asked the club to report the observations separately from its explanation and plan a second experiment with the watering schedule kept constant.
