|---|---|---|
| claim that … 真偽は別途確認 | The maker claimed that the device was safer. |
| acknowledge that … | 〜を認める・存在を認識する | She acknowledged that the data were incomplete. |
| concede that … | 相手の指摘や不利な点を認める | He conceded that the experiment was small. |
| admit doing … | 〜したことを認める | The student admitted changing the chart. |
| deny doing … | 〜したことを否定する | She denied copying the report. |
反証完了とは限らない | The reviewer disputed the conclusion. |
| confirm that … | 情報・事実を確認する | The school confirmed the new date. |
The company claimed that the battery lasts twice as long. The battery lasts twice as long.
The organisers acknowledged receiving the complaint. They admitted making an error.
The teacher disputed the conclusion.

The New Battery Claim(架空の読解資料)
A fictional school team wrote a report about a small rechargeable battery. Its promotional leaflet claimed that the battery lasted twice as long as an older model. However, the leaflet supplied no test method or numerical results. The students did not declare the claim false. Instead, they wrote that its accuracy had not been verified. A teacher acknowledged that the longer life would be useful if demonstrated, but she disputed the leaflet’s implication that the result was already established. The team decided to design its own controlled comparison before recommending the product.

A fictional school published an energy-saving report. The editor confirmed that electricity use in one classroom fell from 140 units to 120 units during a short test. The editor also acknowledged that the weather had been different during the comparison periods. One student claimed that the new lighting system had caused the entire reduction. Another disputed this conclusion because the report had not separated the effects of weather and lighting. The first student later conceded that the evidence was insufficient to establish a single cause. The school planned a longer test rather than removing its previous records.

A Student Exhibition Complaint(架空の読解資料)
A fictional student exhibition received a complaint that two posters had been placed in the wrong room. The organisers acknowledged receiving the complaint on Monday. They did not immediately admit that the posters had been misplaced because they had not checked the room list. On Tuesday, a staff member confirmed that one poster was in the wrong room and the other was correctly placed. The organisers admitted making one placement error and corrected it. They denied the claim that both posters had been misplaced. The notice carefully distinguished acknowledgement of the complaint from confirmation of its details.

A Reading Programme Review(架空の読解資料)
A fictional school tested a reading programme with fifteen volunteers. The organiser claimed that students enjoyed the sessions, citing twelve positive comments. The report acknowledged three negative comments about the pace of reading. A reviewer conceded that most comments were positive but pointed out that comments alone could not demonstrate an improvement in reading skill. No reading test had been given before or after the programme. The organiser accepted that limitation and changed the conclusion from "The programme improved reading skills" to "Most participating students gave positive feedback." The school planned to collect both feedback and test results in the future.
