NEW TREASURE(ニュートレジャー)Stage4・5のRead・Projectで数値条件を読むときは、at least(以上)・at most(以下)・more than(超)・fewer than(未満)が境界の数字そのものを含むかを確認してください。例えば at least 12 and fewer than 20 は、整数の人数なら12~19人です。

at least・at most・more than・less thanの基本

at most 20 / no more than 2020以下(20を含む)含む
fewer than 20 / less than 2020未満(20を含まない)含まない

数値条件では necessary condition(必要条件) と sufficient condition(十分条件) も区別します。

Original fictional English rule: A fictional school is considering a small English presentation workshop. The plan says, ‘The workshop can take place only if at least twelve students and fewer than twenty students register.’ If this condition is met, the organisers will then check whether a teacher is available. Registration by itself does not guarantee that the workshop is approved. The condition concerns the number of registrations, not the number of students who actually attend later. No event has been held yet. For these exercises, registrations are whole-number counts.

問1:What is the minimum permitted number of registrations?

問2:What is the largest permitted whole-number registration count?

問3:Would eleven registrations satisfy the numerical condition?

問4:Would exactly twelve registrations satisfy the numerical condition?

問5:Would nineteen registrations satisfy it?

問6:Would exactly twenty registrations satisfy it?

問7:Translate ‘at least twelve and fewer than twenty’ into a precise inequality.

問8:Does meeting the number condition mean the event has been approved?

問9:Can these figures be reported as the number who attended?

問10:Write a complete explanation of the participation rule.

Original fictional English rule: A fictional school project has a proposed equipment budget. The committee will consider an offer only when the total is more than 40,000 yen and no more than 50,000 yen. This unusual lower bound is an exercise condition, not advice to spend more money. Before approving a proposal, the committee must also receive at least three comparable supplier quotations. The committee has not approved any offer, and no expense has been paid. Monetary amounts in the exercises are whole yen.

問11:What is the first eligible whole-yen amount?

問12:What is the maximum eligible amount?

問13:Is 40,000 yen eligible?

問14:Is 40,001 yen eligible on the budget criterion?

問15:Is 50,000 yen eligible on the budget criterion?

問16:Is 50,001 yen eligible?

問17:Express the monetary condition as an inequality.

問18:How many comparable quotations are required?

問19:Does a compliant price plus two quotations guarantee approval?

問20:Write a cautious budget-rule summary.

Original fictional English rule: Thirty-six students answered a fictional single-choice survey about school notices. Twenty selected digital notices, nine selected printed notices and seven selected ‘both’. Each student chose exactly one category. A reviewer asks whether ‘more than half’, ‘at least two-thirds’, ‘fewer than ten’ and ‘no more than one-quarter’ accurately describe the recorded counts. These answers come from 36 respondents, not necessarily all students at the school.

問21:How many respondents answered the survey?

問22:What is half of thirty-six?

問23:Did more than half choose digital notices?

問24:Would exactly eighteen respondents qualify as ‘more than half’?

問25:How many respondents represent two-thirds of thirty-six?

問26:Did at least two-thirds choose digital notices?

問27:Does ‘fewer than ten chose paper’ match the data?

問28:Does ‘no more than one-quarter chose paper’ match the data?

問29:Can this survey establish the preference of all school students?

問30:Write an accurate report using the boundary expressions.

Original fictional English rule: A fictional school’s consultation desk offers booking slots on a specified Thursday. The schedule says: ‘Appointments may start no earlier than 9:00 a.m. and must start before 5:00 p.m.’ Only students who have received a confirmation email may attend. A timely request is not the same as a confirmed appointment. The exercise considers start times only, not the length of appointments. The school has not said whether any particular time is available.

問31:What is the earliest permitted start time?

問32:What is the latest boundary stated in the rule?

問33:May a confirmed student start at exactly 9:00 a.m.?

問34:May a confirmed student start at 8:59 a.m.?

問35:May a confirmed student start at 4:59 p.m.?

問36:May a confirmed student start at exactly 5:00 p.m.?

問37:Write the time interval using a 24-hour notation.

問38:Does a request sent on time mean attendance is confirmed?

問39:Does the rule establish actual availability at 4:59 p.m.?

問40:Write a complete policy explanation.

1:The minimum is twelve registrations.

2:Nineteen is the largest permitted count.

3:No. Eleven is below the minimum of twelve.

4:Yes. Twelve is included in ‘at least twelve’.

5:Yes. Nineteen is fewer than twenty and at least twelve.

6:No. Twenty is not fewer than twenty.

7:The number must satisfy 12 ≤ n < 20.

8:No. Teacher availability must still be checked.

9:No. They concern registrations, not actual attendance.

10:The proposed workshop requires at least twelve but fewer than twenty registrations. This means an integer count from twelve through nineteen meets the numerical condition, while eleven or twenty does not. Even if the minimum and maximum are satisfied, the organisers must still check teacher availability before approving the event. These figures describe registrations rather than students who actually attend. The workshop has not yet been held, so neither an attendance total nor a successful outcome can be reported.

11:The smallest eligible amount is 40,001 yen.

12:The maximum is 50,000 yen.
根拠:no more thanは境界を含む。

解13:No. It is not more than 40,000 yen.

14:Yes. It is above 40,000 and no more than 50,000 yen.

15:Yes. The upper limit includes 50,000 yen.

16:No. It exceeds the permitted upper limit.

17:It is 40,000 < p ≤ 50,000, where p is the price in yen.

18:At least three quotations are required.
根拠:at least threeは3を含む。

解19:No. Two quotations are fewer than the required three.

20:The fictional committee will consider equipment offers priced above 40,000 yen and at or below 50,000 yen. For whole-yen amounts, that means 40,001 through 50,000 yen. It also requires at least three comparable supplier quotations before any approval can be considered. A price within the interval does not itself guarantee a decision, and the proposed lower bound should not be mistaken for general purchasing advice. No offer has been approved, and no actual expenditure has occurred.

21:There were thirty-six respondents.

22:Half is eighteen.

23:Yes. Twenty is greater than eighteen.
根拠:more than halfは厳密な過半数。

解24:No. Eighteen is exactly half, not more than half.

25:Two-thirds of thirty-six is twenty-four.

26:No. Twenty is fewer than twenty-four.

27:Yes. Nine respondents chose paper.

28:Yes. Nine out of thirty-six is exactly one-quarter.
根拠:no more thanは等しい場合を含む。

解29:No. It describes thirty-six respondents.

30:Among thirty-six survey respondents, twenty chose digital notices, nine selected paper and seven chose both. Thus more than half of the respondents preferred digital notices, because twenty exceeds eighteen. However, twenty does not meet the threshold of at least two-thirds, which would require twenty-four. Fewer than ten chose printed notices, and the nine paper responses were exactly one-quarter of the sample, so ‘no more than one-quarter’ is also accurate. These statements concern respondents and should not be extended to the entire school without further evidence.

31:The earliest permitted start time is 9:00 a.m.
根拠:no earlier thanは9時を含む。

解32:Start times must be before 5:00 p.m.

33:Yes. The start-time interval includes 9:00 a.m.
根拠:no earlier than 9は9以上。

解34:No. It is earlier than the permitted minimum.

35:Yes. That time is earlier than 5:00 p.m.

36:No. The rule says ‘before 5:00 p.m.’, excluding the boundary.

37:The permitted start-time interval is 09:00 ≤ t < 17:00.

38:No. A confirmation email is required.

39:No. It states the permitted range, not that a specific slot is free.

40:In this fictional consultation schedule, an appointment may begin at 9:00 a.m. or later, but it must start strictly before 5:00 p.m. on the specified Thursday. Therefore, 9:00 a.m. and 4:59 p.m. satisfy the time condition, while 8:59 a.m. and exactly 5:00 p.m. do not. A student may attend only after receiving a confirmation email; a request alone is not enough. The rule gives a permissible time range but does not indicate whether any particular slot is available. It also does not specify how long each appointment lasts.
