The change resulted in a delay. The delay resulted from the change. 慶英会ではさらに lead to・be due to・as a result of・account for(割合を占める/説明する)を、完全独自の4英文資料・40問・全和訳・数値根拠で練習します。

Original data and context: In a fictional school notice, the organisers explain that heavy rain caused an outdoor poster exhibition to be postponed. The event was scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m., but it began at 2:45 p.m. in an indoor room instead. The organisers explicitly identify the weather as the reason for this one delay. All guests had received an updated notice before the new start time. No figures about attendance or the exhibition’s educational results were collected. Students should practise changing the direction of cause-and-effect expressions without inventing outcomes.

問1:Identify the explicitly stated cause of the postponement.

問2:Identify the result of the rain.

問3:Write a sentence with ‘result in’.

問4:Rewrite the same relation using ‘result from’.

問5:Rewrite it with ‘be due to’.

問6:Use ‘as a result of’ naturally.

問7:Calculate the delay in minutes.

問8:Does the notice establish how many people attended?

問9:Correct the reversed wording ‘The rain resulted from the postponement’.

問10:Write a careful explanatory paragraph using both expressions.

Original data and context: A fictional school investigated an online application outage. Its internal diagnostic report identified a server configuration error as the cause of a two-hour interruption. During that time, an online registration page was unavailable, but a paper form remained usable. The outage caused twenty-five requests to be processed the next morning rather than that afternoon. The school has not established whether the interruption affected any students’ final admission decisions. The system was restored and tested before online registrations resumed.

問11:What caused the online application outage?

問12:How long was the interruption?

問13:Was every registration method unavailable?

問14:What processing delay followed?

問15:Write a correct ‘result in’ sentence.

問16:Write a correct ‘result from’ sentence.

問17:Express the processing delay with ‘lead to’.

問18:May the writer claim final admission decisions were changed?

問19:State the order of restoration and resumption.

問20:Write a complete evidence-based paragraph.

Original data and context: A fictional school compared waste sorting before and after introducing new signs. In the earlier inspection, twenty-four of eighty checked items were incorrectly sorted. In a later inspection, sixteen of eighty were incorrect. Students also received verbal sorting reminders between the two inspections, and the checks were carried out on different days. No separate controlled comparison was conducted. The observations show a lower recorded error rate in the later check, but they do not isolate the signs’ contribution.

問21:State the initial and later counts.

問22:Calculate the first error rate.

問23:Calculate the later error rate.

問24:Give the change in percentage points.

問25:Write a cautious sentence using ‘was associated with’.

問26:May the writer say ‘The signs resulted in the decrease’ as a proven conclusion?

問27:What other action occurred between inspections?

問28:Can ‘The decrease resulted from the signs alone’ be confirmed?

問29:Suggest a more informative follow-up.

問30:Write a balanced paragraph using the appropriate expressions.

Original data and context: A fictional school project has an initial equipment estimate of 45,000 yen, staff estimate of 30,000 yen and transport estimate of 25,000 yen, totalling 100,000 yen. In a revised estimate, equipment rose to 60,000 yen while staff and transport estimates remained unchanged, giving a total of 115,000 yen. The committee explicitly confirms that the 15,000-yen increase in the estimate came entirely from the equipment category. These are estimates, not actual payments. The task compares cost shares with explanations of the change in the total.

問31:Calculate the initial estimated total.

問32:Calculate the revised estimated total.

問33:How much did the estimated total increase?

問34:Which cost category caused the increase according to the source?

問35:Write an accurate ‘result from’ sentence.

問36:Write the equivalent ‘result in’ sentence.

問37:What share of the original total did equipment represent?

問38:What percentage of the revised total is the equipment estimate, approximately?

問39:Are these figures actual expenses already paid?

問40:Write a compact report contrasting both meanings of ‘account for’.

1:Heavy rain was the stated cause.

2:The outdoor exhibition was postponed and moved indoors.

3:The heavy rain resulted in the postponement of the outdoor exhibition.

4:The postponement of the exhibition resulted from heavy rain.

5:The postponement was due to heavy rain.

7:The event began forty-five minutes later than scheduled.

8:No. Attendance figures were not recorded.

9:The postponement resulted from the rain, not the other way round.

10:The fictional outdoor exhibition was delayed by forty-five minutes because of heavy rain. The rain resulted in the postponement, and the postponement resulted from the weather conditions. Organisers moved the display indoors and sent an updated notice before the new start time of 2:45 p.m. These statements describe the confirmed reason and timing of this particular event. They do not establish how many guests attended or whether the move changed students’ learning. In academic writing, ‘result in’ points from cause to effect, whereas ‘result from’ starts with the effect and identifies its cause.

11:A server configuration error caused the interruption.

12:The interruption lasted two hours.

13:No. Paper forms remained usable.

14:Twenty-five requests were processed the next morning instead of that afternoon.

15:The server configuration error resulted in a two-hour interruption.

16:The two-hour interruption resulted from the server configuration error.

17:The interruption led to the delayed processing of twenty-five requests.

18:No. The effect on final admission decisions is unknown.

19:Online registration resumed only after the system had been restored and tested.

20:An internal investigation at the fictional school identified a server configuration error as the cause of a two-hour online application outage. The error resulted in an interruption, and that interruption led to twenty-five requests being processed the following morning instead of that afternoon. However, paper forms remained available during the outage. Online registration resumed only after the system had been restored and tested. The report does not establish whether any final admission decisions changed. This example supports a specific causal explanation about service availability and processing, not broader claims about student outcomes.

21:The counts were twenty-four of eighty and sixteen of eighty items.

22:The earlier error rate was 30 percent.

23:The later error rate was 20 percent.

24:The observed rate fell by ten percentage points.

25:The introduction of new signs was associated with a lower recorded error rate in this comparison.

26:No. The data do not isolate the signs’ effect from other changes.

27:Students received verbal sorting reminders.

28:No. The cause of the reduction cannot be attributed solely to the signs.

29:The school could repeat comparable inspections while keeping reminder practices consistent.

30:The school recorded fewer incorrectly sorted items after new signs were introduced: twenty-four of eighty before the change and sixteen of eighty afterward. The error rate fell from 30 to 20 percent, a decrease of ten percentage points. The sign change was associated with the recorded reduction, but students also received verbal reminders and the inspection days differed. Therefore, the evidence does not show that the signs alone resulted in the improvement or that the decrease resulted only from the signs. A more comparable study would be needed to evaluate separate contributions.

31:The initial estimated total was 100,000 yen.

32:The revised estimated total was 115,000 yen.

33:The estimate increased by 15,000 yen.

34:The equipment estimate alone accounted for the 15,000-yen increase.

35:The increase in the total estimate resulted from higher equipment costs.

36:Higher estimated equipment costs resulted in a 15,000-yen increase in the total estimate.

37:Equipment accounted for 45 percent of the original estimated total.
account for=構成比。

解38:Equipment accounts for approximately 52.2 percent of the revised estimate.

39:No. They are planned estimates, not recorded payments.

40:The original project estimate totalled 100,000 yen, with equipment accounting for 45 percent of that amount. The revised estimate was 115,000 yen because the equipment category rose from 45,000 to 60,000 yen, while staffing and transport remained unchanged. Thus the higher equipment estimate accounted for the entire 15,000-yen increase in the planned total. Equipment now represents approximately 52.2 percent of the revised budget. In the first use, ‘account for’ describes a share of a total; in the second, it explains the recorded reason for the estimate change. None of these figures represents actual payments.
