Original Passage
On a rainy Tuesday, Rina arrived at school earlier than usual. Her class was preparing an exhibition about the town’s history, and she had promised to bring an old photograph. When she opened her bag, however, the photograph was not there. She remembered putting it into a blue box at home, but she could not remember taking the box to school.
Rina called her grandmother, who had lent her the photograph. Her grandmother explained that the blue box was still on the kitchen table. Rina felt disappointed because the exhibition would open at noon. Instead of giving up, she asked her teacher whether she could display a written description first. The teacher agreed and suggested adding a blank frame with a note saying, “The original photograph will arrive tomorrow.”
During lunch, Rina wrote about the old bridge in the picture. She included the year it was built and the reason people used it. The next morning, her grandmother brought the photograph. Rina placed it inside the frame. Some visitors said that reading the description before seeing the picture had made them more curious. Rina learned that a small mistake does not always ruin a good plan.

Original Passage
A school library wanted to reduce the electricity it used, but the staff did not want students to lose a comfortable place to read. For four weeks, a student team recorded when lights and computers were used. The team did not collect students’ names because the purpose was to study energy use, not individual behavior.
During the first week, the library used 120 units of electricity. In the second week, the team placed reminders near empty study rooms and asked people to turn off unused lights. Electricity use fell to 108 units. In the third week, they introduced a schedule that put computers into sleep mode after fifteen minutes of inactivity. Use fell to 96 units. In the fourth week, more students visited the library for a school project, and use rose to 104 units.
The team concluded that the reminders and sleep settings might have helped, but the four weekly numbers did not prove the exact cause of every change. A larger number of visitors could increase electricity use even when people were careful. The students recommended continuing the measurements for another month and comparing weeks with similar visitor numbers before making stronger claims.

Original Passage
Three students were planning an online conversation with a partner school abroad. The first meeting had been arranged for Thursday at four in the afternoon, but the students realized that the time had been written in their own country’s time zone. They asked the partner school to confirm the local time before sending invitations.
Mika wanted to prepare ten questions about school lunches. Jun suggested choosing only four questions because the meeting would last twenty minutes. Sora agreed with Jun and added that there should be time for the other students to ask questions, too. After discussing their ideas, they chose four topics: lunch, clubs, homework, and holidays.
The students also prepared a short sentence to use if they could not understand an answer: “Could you say that again more slowly, please?” Their teacher explained that asking for clarification is not a sign of poor English. It shows that a listener wants to understand accurately.
On the day of the meeting, the video connection stopped for about two minutes. Instead of rushing through every question, the students skipped their last topic and ended on time. They later wrote a short report explaining both what they had learned and what they would change before the next meeting.

Original Passage
Some schools send notices to families through smartphone apps. This method can be fast and useful. A teacher may correct a date without printing a new sheet, and parents can check information even when their children forget to bring papers home. Supporters also argue that fewer printed pages may reduce waste.
However, replacing every paper notice may create problems. Not every family wants to use the same app, and some people may have trouble reading long messages on small screens. An urgent message may also be missed if a phone is turned off or a notification is disabled. Paper has another advantage: a family can place a timetable on a wall where everyone can see it.
A better solution may be to offer more than one method. Routine reminders could be sent digitally, while an important schedule could also be available on paper when needed. Schools should ask families which methods are accessible instead of assuming that one choice works for everyone.
The key question is not whether technology is good or bad. It is whether the school can communicate important information clearly, reliably, and fairly. The most useful system may combine speed with flexibility.

問36. What special advantage can a paper timetable have?
問37. What kind of notices could be sent digitally?
問38. What does the author suggest for important schedules?

問40. Which title best captures the argument?
