1|From a Small Experiment to a Bank(Q1〜Q8)
[1] Grameen Bank began with an idea about access to credit. In rural Bangladesh, many people who wanted to start or expand small activities could not easily obtain loans from ordinary banks. Some did not own assets that could be offered as collateral. A loan may help a person buy tools or materials, but it must also be repaid under its terms. The idea was not that money could be given without responsibilities.
[2] Muhammad Yunus was interested in whether small amounts of credit could be provided to people who were often excluded from traditional banking. The Grameen Bank project began as a pilot in the village of Jobra in 1976. Researchers and local participants tested a different approach to lending. It was a project before it became an independent bank.
[3] In 1983, the project was transformed into a bank. This was an important institutional step, rather than the beginning of the first experiment. The bank later became known internationally for microcredit, which means making relatively small loans available to borrowers who may not have access to ordinary financial services.
[4] In 2006, Grameen Bank and its founder Muhammad Yunus received the Nobel Peace Prize. The award recognized their efforts to encourage economic and social development from below. A prize is a historical fact about recognition, but it does not mean that every loan in every setting succeeds or that risks disappear. An accurate reader should explain both the aim of the program and the obligations and possible limits of borrowing.

独自英文2|独自英文2|An Invented Classroom Budget(Q9〜Q16)
[1] A class at an imaginary school wanted to understand the basic arithmetic of a small business loan. The teacher invented a story about a community stall. The owner wished to buy materials to make and sell cloth bags. She considered borrowing 6,000 units of a fictional currency. The example was designed for arithmetic and English comprehension, not as advice about an actual financial product.
[2] In the first version of the example, the owner spent 4,800 units on materials and 1,200 units on transport and other costs. If every bag was sold, the total sales revenue would be 9,000 units. Revenue means the money received from sales, whereas profit depends on the costs that must be paid. In this simplified calculation, revenue minus the two expenses was 3,000 units before any loan-related charges or other unrecorded costs.
[3] The teacher asked students whether the 3,000 units could automatically be called money left after repaying the loan. The students said no. The example had not specified the repayment schedule, possible interest or fees, other personal expenses, or whether every bag would actually sell. Therefore, the arithmetic result alone could not establish the final amount of money the borrower would keep.
[4] Students then discussed what information a responsible borrower would need before accepting a loan: how much must be repaid, when payments are due, what happens if sales fall, and what other costs are likely. They concluded that a loan could create an opportunity, but the terms and risks had to be understood. The teacher emphasized that the invented figures were only a reading exercise and did not describe Grameen Bank’s current terms.

独自英文3|独自英文3|How a Student Checked a Success Claim(Q17〜Q24)
[1] Students at a fictional school prepared a display about the history of microcredit. They read that Grameen Bank and Muhammad Yunus had received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. One student suggested writing, ‘Microcredit always ends poverty for every borrower.’ The rest of the group asked whether the award itself could establish such a universal conclusion. It could not.
[2] The class separated its sources into three groups. The bank’s official pages described its history and aims. The Nobel Prize website confirmed the year of the award and the stated reason for recognition. Research about the effects of lending programs would need to examine outcomes, borrowers’ circumstances, repayment burdens, and other influences. The students saw that these sources answered different questions.
[3] To make their display more useful, they wrote a short timeline: a pilot project began in 1976, the bank was established in 1983, and the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in 2006. They also prepared a glossary explaining collateral, borrower, repayment, and microcredit. Beside the timeline they placed a question: ‘What evidence would we need to understand the benefits and risks of a loan program?’
[4] Several visitors said they had previously thought that a loan and a gift were the same. The students explained that a loan normally creates a repayment obligation, while a gift does not. They did not attempt to recommend loans to the visitors. Instead, they encouraged careful reading of the purpose, terms, and evidence. The final display presented an important historical initiative without claiming that one tool could solve every economic problem.
