比較対象Both sources discuss …
Source ASource A emphasizes …Aが実際に述べたこと
Source BIn contrast, Source B points out …
However, the evidence does not prove …
結論Therefore, I would recommend …

Both / SimilarlyBoth sources aim to improve access.
対比However / In contrastHowever, some visitors need printed copies.
Although / WhileAlthough online notices are flexible, access varies.
結果Therefore / For this reasonTherefore, a short trial is useful.
限定may / cannot concludeWe cannot conclude that it caused the change.

Source A — Library coordinator

Digital notices can be updated immediately when a meeting time or room changes. Our staff members have sometimes had to replace printed signs after the schedule changed. We think the current date should be clearly displayed on every notice.

Source B — Visitor access survey

In an imaginary survey, 18 out of 30 visitors preferred printed directions, while 12 preferred digital directions. Respondents chose only one format. We did not measure which format led to fewer wrong turns or faster arrival.

Digital notices can be updated quickly.

  2. Q2. Source B

Thirty.

Sixty percent.

Forty percent.

No. The survey did not measure mistakes or speed.

Helping visitors find up-to-date information.

Paper may suit some visitors; digital formats support quick updates.

I would use both formats where possible and test whether visitors can follow the instructions.

Case 1

Both printed and digital library notices have useful features, but they solve different problems. Source A explains that digital information can be updated quickly when a schedule changes. Source B reports that eighteen of thirty visitors preferred printed directions. However, the survey measured preferences, not whether people found the room correctly. Therefore, we should not call either format universally better. I would provide both formats when practical and show the latest update date clearly. The library could then test how well visitors follow the directions before making a permanent decision about its information system.

Source A — Student timetable

An online discussion can save travel time for students who live far away. It may also make a short planning meeting easier to attend. However, this note does not say that every student has a quiet room or a reliable internet connection.

Source B — Equipment manager

A classroom workshop provides shared equipment and staff supervision. Some activities are difficult to reproduce with a video call. Still, requiring everyone to travel for every brief meeting may create unnecessary difficulties.

It can reduce travel and support short meetings.

Internet reliability and quiet study space.

Shared equipment and supervision.

Some short meetings do not require travel.

Different activities have different practical needs.

Some activities need equipment or stable access.

The purpose of the meeting and participants’ access needs.

Use online meetings for short planning and face-to-face sessions for supervised equipment work.

Case 2

Online and face-to-face meetings are not equally suitable for every task. Source A points out that online discussions may save travel time, especially for short planning sessions. However, it also notes that some students may lack reliable internet access or quiet space. Source B explains that classroom workshops provide equipment and supervision, although travel may be unnecessary for brief discussions. I would not choose one format for every activity. Schools should first identify the purpose of each meeting and ask what participants need. A flexible schedule could offer online planning while keeping practical workshops in person.

Source A — Fictional weekly record

A fictional school recorded 18 kilograms of leftover food in Week 1 and 14 kilograms in Week 2. During the second week, students could choose between two appropriate portion sizes. The figures are totals for each week, not measurements per student.

Source B — School planning note

During the same period, student attendance and the menus were not recorded in a comparable form. The planning team wanted to reduce waste while ensuring that students had adequate food. It recommended another trial with clearer measurements before claiming the policy caused the difference.

  1. Q17. Week 1

18 kilograms.

  2. Q18. Week 2

14 kilograms.

4 kilograms.

About 22.2 percent.

Students could choose from two suitable portion sizes.

Attendance and menus were not measured comparably.

Reducing waste without compromising adequate food.

The totals fell, but more comparable data is needed to identify the cause.

Case 3

The fictional school’s food waste decreased from eighteen kilograms to fourteen kilograms, a reduction of four kilograms or about twenty-two percent. Source A notes that students could choose between two appropriate portion sizes during the second week. However, Source B explains that attendance and menus were not recorded comparably. Therefore, the change cannot be attributed to portion choices alone. Reducing waste is a useful goal, but students must still receive enough food. I would recommend another carefully measured trial and report both the observed totals and the limitations before introducing a permanent policy.

Source A — Exhibition designer

Photographs can help visitors quickly notice the subject of a display. However, an image does not always reveal when something happened, and the people shown in it may have allowed only a limited use of the photograph.

Source B — Museum volunteer

Written labels can provide dates, sources, and explanations. Nevertheless, a long label may be difficult for some visitors to read. A well-designed display can combine images, clear writing, and alternative text where suitable.

They can attract attention and show a subject quickly.

When it was taken.

Permission for the intended use.

It can provide dates and sources.

They may be difficult to read.

Yes. Both want a clearer exhibition.

Use permitted images, short captions, source details, and alternative text.

A balanced display should combine clear written context with appropriately used images.

Case 4

Photographs and written explanations can support an exhibition in different ways. Source A argues that pictures quickly attract attention, but they may not show dates or the full context. It also reminds us to check permission before publishing an image. Source B says labels can provide sources and details, although long text may be difficult to read. I would combine clearly permitted images with short descriptions, source information and alternative text where appropriate. The aim should not be to make the longest or most colorful display. It should be to help visitors understand reliable information.
