At Eastwood School, students began a program to share unused notebooks and folders. Families often had materials left over at the end of the school year. Instead of throwing them away, they could bring clean items to a collection desk. Volunteers checked the items and placed them on shelves for other students.

Several towns want to reduce the number of short journeys made by car. One district tested a bicycle-sharing service for four months. Residents could borrow bicycles at three stations and return them at any of those stations. The first thirty minutes were free, while people who used a bicycle longer paid a small fee.
After the trial, officials surveyed users and examined rental records. Many people said that the bicycles were convenient for short trips to shops and the railway station. However, the data showed that bicycles were often unavailable at the busiest station in the morning, while other stations had unused bicycles.
