The number decreased.
reduce waste / reduce costs。
Attendance declined.。
lower prices / lower the temperature。形容詞の lower(より低い)とも区別する。
Prices decreased.

Reading:At Seabrook School, students wanted to reduce paper waste without making it difficult for families to receive school news. The school introduced an online notice board, but it also continued offering paper copies to families who needed them. After one term, the amount of paper used for announcements decreased from 12,000 sheets to 8,000 sheets. The student council reported a reduction of 4,000 sheets, not a drop of 4,000 percent. The council also noticed that the number of families requesting paper copies had declined. However, members could not prove that the new notice board alone caused the decline because some families had changed their contact preferences earlier. They decided to review the results again after another term.
Q25. How much paper did the school use after the change?
A. 8,000 sheets / B. 4,000 sheets / C. 12,000 sheets / D. 20,000 sheets
正解:A. 8,000 sheets。
Q26. How many sheets were saved?
A. 2,000 / B. 4,000 / C. 8,000 / D. 12,000
Q27. Why did the council avoid claiming a single cause?
A. The notice board closed / B. Every family lost internet access / C. Some families had changed preferences earlier / D. No data were collected
Some families had changed preferences earlier。
Q28. What did the school continue to provide?
A. Free computers for everyone / B. New uniforms / C. Extra exams / D. Paper copies for families who needed them
D. Paper copies for families who needed them。
Reading:A regional bus company lowered fares for students who travel before nine in the morning. The company hoped that a lower fare would encourage more young people to use buses instead of cars. In the first month, student passenger numbers rose from 300 to 360 per weekday. At the same time, the number of cars near one school appeared to decrease slightly. The company did not claim that the fare change alone had caused this reduction because the school had introduced new cycling routes. It planned to compare the figures over a longer period. Officials also noted that a higher number of passengers did not automatically mean that the company earned more money, since each student now paid a lower fare.
Q29. What did the company lower?
A. Early-morning student fares / B. The school entrance age / C. The price of bicycles / D. The number of bus routes
正解:A. Early-morning student fares。
Q30. How many student passengers used buses per weekday in the first month?
A. 300 / B. 360 / C. 60 / D. 660
Q31. Why might the reduction in cars have another cause?
A. The buses stopped running / B. Students stopped going to school / C. The school added cycling routes / D. All drivers moved away
The school added cycling routes。
Q32. Why did more passengers not guarantee higher income?
A. Tickets were free for everyone / B. Buses were no longer needed / C. The company sold fewer buses / D. Each student paid a lower fare
D. Each student paid a lower fare。
Reading:A group of students collected information about food waste in the school cafeteria. The cooks began offering smaller portions and allowed students to ask for more food if needed. The students wanted to reduce waste further, but they did not want to lower the nutritional quality of meals. They also found that the number of students choosing vegetables had not declined.
Reading:The Riverside Museum began offering online reservations to reduce long lines at the entrance. Before the system was introduced, visitors sometimes waited more than thirty minutes. The museum later reported that the average waiting time had decreased to twelve minutes. However, the number of visitors who came without reservations also declined. Some local residents worried that the new system made visits less convenient for people without smartphones. In response, the museum lowered the number of steps required to make a telephone reservation and kept a small number of tickets available at the entrance. The director said that shorter waiting times were useful, but improving access for different groups mattered just as much.
Q37. What did online reservations aim to reduce?
A. Long entrance lines / B. Ticket prices for all visitors / C. The size of the museum / D. The number of exhibits

正解:D. Telephone reservations and some entrance tickets。
