food waste / waste time。
household garbage / garbage collection。
trash can / take out the trash。
pick up litter / Do not litter.。

Passage:A town organized a weekend clean-up after visitors complained about litter on its beaches. Volunteers collected plastic wrappers, drink containers, and other trash that had been left on the sand. They recorded the amount of litter in different areas and found that the busiest entrance had the most. The town then placed new trash bins near that entrance and added signs asking visitors to take their waste home when bins were full. Three months later, volunteers reported less litter in several locations. However, they also explained that the change might partly reflect a smaller number of visitors during the colder season. They planned to repeat the survey in summer before judging how effective the bins were.

Passage:Students at Cedar School wanted to understand food waste in their cafeteria. For one week, they weighed uneaten food after lunch and recorded which dishes were most often left. Instead of immediately removing popular meals, they offered smaller portions and allowed students to request more food. After the change, the amount of food waste decreased, but the team also checked whether students were getting enough to eat. A separate group examined the cafeteria’s garbage collection and suggested clearer labels for different materials. The teacher explained that reducing waste was not the same as simply making fewer meals. The school needed to consider nutrition, student satisfaction, and the amount of food being thrown away.

Passage:A community festival encouraged visitors to bring reusable cups rather than take disposable ones. At the end of the day, organizers examined the trash collected near food stalls. There were fewer disposable cups than at the previous festival, but more paper packaging. The team decided that simply counting all garbage together would hide these differences. It separated the waste into categories and compared each one. Volunteers also picked up litter left along the nearby walking path. The organizers explained that a cleaner festival ground did not necessarily mean that the total amount of waste was lower, because more rubbish might have been placed correctly in bins. They planned to measure both the materials collected and the litter left outside.

Q33. What were visitors encouraged to bring?

A. Reusable cups / B. A bicycle / C. Old textbooks / D. Plastic bags for sale

正解:A. Reusable cups。bring reusable cups。

Q35. Why was separating waste into categories useful?

C. It revealed differences among materials。

Q36. What does a cleaner-looking ground not necessarily prove?

A. That volunteers worked / B. That bins were available / C. That some litter was collected / D. That total waste decreased

That total waste decreased。

Passage:A science class investigated waste found near a river. Students took photographs of litter beside walking paths and counted plastic bottles, snack wrappers, and pieces of paper. They did not collect dangerous objects themselves; instead, they informed trained adults. In the classroom, they discussed the difference between garbage placed in a collection bin and litter left outdoors. The teacher explained that both might become waste, but the location and collection method affected environmental risks. The students then prepared posters encouraging visitors not to litter and asking them to use available bins. Their final report described what they had observed without claiming that every item had been dropped by tourists. Some rubbish could also have arrived from other areas during heavy rain.

Q37. What did students count?

A. Bottles, wrappers, and paper pieces / B. Bus tickets only / C. The number of teachers / D. All plants in the town

C. Using bins instead of littering。not to litter and use available bins。
