1|Repairing School Bags
At Brookside School, students noticed that some backpacks were thrown away because a zipper or a strap was broken. The student council started a repair corner once a month. A local volunteer showed students how to fix simple problems with basic tools. At first, only a few students brought items. The council explained the project during morning meetings, and more families began using the service. The volunteers also told students when a repair might not be safe or possible. They did not want anyone to use a bag that could suddenly break while carrying heavy books. By the end of the term, students understood that repairing useful items could reduce unnecessary purchases, but they also learned that safety had to come first.

長文2|Finding the Best Time for Birdwatching
Students at Meadow School wanted to learn about birds in a nearby park. They first visited on a warm afternoon, but they saw only a few birds. Instead of deciding that the park had very little wildlife, their teacher suggested visiting at different times. Groups returned early in the morning and late in the afternoon. They counted the birds they saw and wrote notes about the weather. Several groups saw more birds in the morning, but the students knew they had visited on only a few days. They also noticed that noisy activities near the park sometimes made observation difficult. The project helped them understand that one short visit may not show everything about a place. They decided to continue recording their observations through the next season.

長文3|Helping Visitors Find Their Way
The East Town Library received visitors who spoke different languages. Many signs used long sentences, and some people had trouble finding the children’s reading room. Library workers tried adding small pictures next to the written directions. They asked volunteers to walk around the building and use the new signs without help. Some found their way easily, but others said the pictures were too small. The workers then made the symbols larger and kept short explanations in two languages. They did not remove all words because visitors sometimes needed more detailed information. After the changes, several users said that the building was easier to understand. The workers planned to ask more visitors for feedback instead of assuming that one design would be perfect for everyone.

長文4|Sharing Clothes at School
At Pinehill Junior High School, the environmental club organized a clothing exchange. Students could bring clean clothes that no longer fit and choose other items without paying money. The club also placed signs explaining that all items needed to be in good condition. During the first event, twenty-eight students took part. At the second event, forty students attended. Some members were excited about the higher number, but their teacher asked a different question: Had the exchange actually reduced the amount of clothing thrown away? The club had not measured that number, so it could not answer yet. Students decided to ask participants what they usually did with clothes they no longer needed. The teacher said the event looked promising, but the group would need better evidence before making a strong claim about waste reduction.

長文5|Studying Shade and Summer Heat
Students at Riverside School wondered why some parts of their playground felt much hotter than others in summer. They placed simple temperature sensors in three locations: under a tree, near a concrete wall, and beside a small garden. On three sunny afternoons, they recorded the air temperature at the same time. The shaded area was cooler on all three days. However, the class had not checked the playground on cloudy days or during other seasons. Their teacher explained that the results were useful for the school’s summer plans, but they could not describe the whole year. The students decided to make a simple map showing their observations and share it with teachers. They also planned to check whether the same pattern appeared next summer.
