get on・get off・get in・get out ofの違い｜乗り物の無料40問と全解説

get on・get off・get in・get out ofの違い【一覧表】

バス・電車と車・タクシーでは動詞が異なる

Cambridge Dictionaryの文法資料では、バス・電車・飛行機に乗るときget on、降りるときget offという組み合わせが示されています。乗用車・タクシーなど車内へ乗る場合はget in／get intoです。get on the carでは車の屋根に登るような意味に取られる場合があるため、通常の乗用車への乗車には用いません。

get off the trainとget out of the taxi

Please get off the train at the next station.は駅で電車を降りる指示です。Please get out of the taxi at the entrance.は入口でタクシーの内部から降りる指示です。日本語ではどちらも「降りる」ですが、英語は乗り物の種類によって使い分けます。

自転車はget on：大型車だけの表現ではない

自転車・バイク・馬など、またがって乗るものにもget onとget offを使います。大型ならon、小型ならinと単純化するのではなく、交通機関の性質や乗り方から表現を選びます。

getとbe：乗る動きと乗っている状態

I got on the bus.は乗車した動作、I am on the bus.は現在乗車中という状態です。車ならI got in the car.とI am in the car.です。会話やリスニングでは今移動しているのか、すでに車内にいるのかを聞き分けましょう。

by bus・by train・on foot：交通手段の言い方

I go to school by bus.のように、手段のbyの後には通常a／theを付けません。徒歩はon footです。I go to school on the bus.も自然な場面がありますが、by busは乗り物を手段として一般的に示します。

乗用車やタクシーの車内に入る動作を示します。get in the car、get into a taxiが基本です。

普通に車内に入るならget in the carが正しい形です。文字通り車の屋根に登るならonを使う可能性があります。

タクシーではget offを使いますか？

一般的な乗用車タイプのタクシーから降りるならget out of the taxiが標準的です。

自転車はなぜget onなのですか？

自転車はまたがって乗る交通手段なのでget on／get offを用いるのが自然です。

I am on the trainとI got on the trainの違いは？

前者は乗車している状態、後者は乗り込んだ動作を表します。

by busとon the busは両方正しいですか？

どちらも自然な文脈があります。by busは移動手段の種類、on the busは特定のバスに乗車している状況を表します。
