Paragraph 1. A fictional school district wanted to reduce food waste in its lunch program. Staff had been weighing leftovers after every meal, and a few people argued that these figures could reveal which dishes students disliked. However, attendance varied considerably between weeks, and the kitchens sometimes prepared more portions than the number of pupils who arrived. The amount of food left over [1] whether the menu was unpopular. Administrators decided to record food prepared but never served separately from food left on plates.
Paragraph 2. Teachers suggested asking students which meals they preferred, while kitchen workers proposed improving attendance forecasts. Parents were concerned that an automatic reduction in portions could leave some children hungry. The district therefore kept additional portions available [2] its estimates became more accurate. Staff also documented the extra time required to sort waste into categories rather than assuming that collecting better data would cost nothing.
Paragraph 3. After a month, the number of unserved meals appeared to decline. Yet attendance had been unusually stable, so the new forecasts were not necessarily responsible for the entire change. The district decided to compare results across different terms [3] a permanent policy. Its aim was to reduce waste without making nutrition or staff workloads worse.

But several documents contained dates that were difficult to read, and some photographs had been damaged. The curator [4] the assumption that publishing more images immediately would always make the collection more useful. Instead, she proposed releasing a small group of materials with detailed descriptions.
Paragraph 2. Several letters, [5] had unreadable dates, were set aside for further research. Staff compared the handwriting with existing records, but they avoided treating a guess as a confirmed historical fact. The museum also consulted specialists about whether showing exact locations of fragile objects might create security problems. Visitors welcomed the project, although some asked why particular images were not yet available.
Paragraph 3. After its first trial release, the museum collected comments about the clarity of the descriptions. A high number of page views did not prove that the dates were correct or that everyone understood the notes. The curator insisted on labels explaining which dates [6].
Q1 正解B:did not establish。根拠・解説:did not establish whether ~ は『~かどうかを立証しなかった』。
Q2 正解B:even if。
Q3 正解A:before approving。
Q4 正解A:questioned。
Q5 正解B:some of which。
C:were estimates rather than verified facts。
Q7 正解C:provided that。
B:could not be attributed solely。根拠・解説:could not be attributed solely to ~=『~だけが原因とは言えない』。
C:people who had previously struggled to use the stops。
Q10 正解A:although。
B:could not be judged by。根拠・解説:could not be judged by ~ alone=『~だけでは評価できない』。
Q12 正解C:without assuming。根拠・解説:without assuming that all public roofs were suitable=『すべての屋上が適するとは決めつけず』。

A fictional town introduced a free evening shuttle to connect residents with a library and a health center. After the first month, the number of passengers had increased. Some officials argued that the service should immediately be expanded to other neighborhoods. [13], the town’s transport officer cautioned that higher passenger numbers did not establish that people with limited mobility could use the new service safely.
Several residents had reported that a newly introduced stop was too far from the entrance of the health center. The council agreed to move it closer [14] the revised position passed a safety inspection. During the trial, officials also discovered that a number of people who had not previously used public transport were missing from the original passenger survey.
The council decided to continue the service at its existing size for another month. [15], it asked residents who had not used the shuttle to describe the barriers they faced. Officials explained that a successful service should be judged not only by its popularity but also by its accessibility and operating costs.

- Q14 [14] A. unless B. although C. provided that D. despite
- Q15 [15] A. Instead B. Otherwise C. Likewise D. Consequently
A fictional school placed sound sensors near several classrooms after students complained about construction noise. The devices recorded changes during the day, but the research team warned that a high reading did not automatically identify its source. For example, a nearby delivery vehicle could temporarily affect the measurement. The school therefore agreed not to use the data for a final decision [16] the readings were checked against the timetable of construction work.
During the next week, researchers compared different locations and found that two sensors had not been installed correctly. [17], the team repeated the measurements with better equipment and documented the circumstances of each reading.
After the repeated trial, several records suggested that noise levels had fallen. The principal said that [18] the latest results were positive, a longer observation period was still necessary. The school would also ask teachers whether the noise actually interfered with lessons rather than judging the situation only from numerical readings.
- Q16 [16] A. because of B. as if C. even if D. until
- Q17 [17] A. In contrast B. As a result C. For instance D. On the other hand

Q13 正解B:However。
Q14 正解C:provided that。
Q15 正解A:Instead。
because ofの後ろは名詞句、as if・even ifでは必要な確認の前後関係を表せない。
Q17 正解B:As a result。
Q18 正解C:even if。
