A regional theater began offering captions during selected performances so that visitors who had difficulty hearing could follow the dialogue. The captions were displayed on a small screen near the stage. Some families welcomed the change because they could attend performances together more comfortably. Theater staff hoped the service would also help people learning Japanese as a second language.

However, the first trial had several problems. Visitors sitting near the back could not always read the captions, and some lines appeared too late. The theater received more requests for accessible seats than it could provide. Although attendance increased during the trial, the organizers did not know whether the captions caused the increase because a popular actor was also performing that month.

The theater moved the caption screen higher and adjusted the timing of the text. It also offered a clearer reservation guide and kept printed summaries available. Before expanding the service, managers plan to compare equipment costs, feedback from visitors who did not attend, and how well people understood the performances. They will not claim a lasting improvement from ticket sales alone.

A town asked volunteers to measure temperatures along walking routes during summer. Some routes had many trees, while others passed through areas with little shade. Officials wanted to identify places where older residents and young children might have difficulty walking safely on hot days. They also hoped the observations could guide decisions about where to plant trees.

At first, volunteers used different thermometers and measured temperatures at different times. One route seemed considerably cooler, but the town could not know whether the difference was caused by shade or by measurement conditions. Another problem was that the route with more trees was closer to a public drinking-water station, which might influence how comfortable visitors felt.

The town supplied the same type of thermometer to all volunteers and asked them to record measurements at matching times. It also collected comments from people who avoided the routes in hot weather. The town has not decided where to plant additional trees. Officials will examine the measurements over several summers, maintenance costs, and accessibility before approving a larger project.

A school began weighing food left after lunch. The waste total fell during the first week. However, several classes were away on trips, so fewer meals were served. Students realized that the lower total did not prove a successful campaign.

The school then calculated waste per meal and asked students which dishes were often left unfinished. It avoided publishing information that identified individual children.

Teachers may test smaller optional portions next term. They will check nutrition, staff workload and long-term results before claiming that the campaign reduced waste.

A school weighed lunch leftovers to reduce food waste, but the first decrease was misleading because fewer meals were served. Students began measuring waste per meal and gathering feedback while protecting privacy. The school may test smaller portions, but nutrition, staff workload and long-term effects still require careful evaluation.

A local history center asked volunteers to translate short descriptions of old photographs into several languages. The aim was to help visitors who could not easily read the original Japanese labels. Staff kept the Japanese texts and printed versions available.

Some descriptions contained uncertain dates and place names that had changed over time. Volunteers sometimes gave different translations. Rather than choosing one answer at random, trained staff compared the descriptions with historical records and asked two volunteers to check difficult passages independently.

The center marked dates that could not be verified. Staff will ask visitors questions about the photographs to examine whether the translations improve understanding. Before adding more languages, they will also examine translation costs and the needs of visitors who speak less common languages.

  1. 問33 Why were translations introduced? (A) To remove old photographs (B) To raise ticket prices (C) To help readers of other languages (D) To close the center
  2. 問34 How were disputed details checked? (A) With historical records and independent reviews (B) By guessing dates (C) By copying social media rumors (D) By removing every label
  3. 問35 Why will visitors be asked questions? (A) To choose wall colors (B) To measure the center’s age (C) To find free computers (D) To examine understanding
  4. 問36 What will be considered before expanding? (A) Only ticket sales (B) Costs and language needs (C) Only screen size (D) The number of buses

33 C:help visitors who could not easily read the original Japanese labels。34 A:compared … with historical records / check … independently。35 D:examine whether … improve understanding。36 B:examine translation costs and the needs of visitors。

A history center translated photograph descriptions to make displays more accessible. Uncertain dates and changing place names made some translations unreliable. Staff checked old records, asked volunteers to review difficult passages independently, and marked uncertain details. They will assess visitors’ understanding, translation costs, and language needs before expanding the service.
