Wetlands provide habitats for birds, insects, and plants. In one region, a town built a raised wooden path so visitors could observe the environment without walking directly through sensitive areas. The path also includes signs explaining why certain sections are closed during the bird breeding season.
After the path opened, staff reported that more people were visiting the information center. However, this does not prove that all visitors came because of the new path. The town also began advertising the area’s natural history during the same period, and the weather was unusually pleasant on several weekends.
The wooden path has to be inspected regularly because rain and changes in water levels can damage its surface. Some visitors have suggested building a wider path, but conservation workers warn that construction might disturb more wetland habitat. The town therefore plans to study visitor numbers and environmental conditions before expanding it.
Local schools use the site for science projects. Instead of collecting plants, students record observations from approved viewing points. Teachers remind them that seeing fewer birds on one day does not necessarily mean the bird population has declined; wind, time of day, and seasonal movement may affect what they see.
問28:Why was the raised path built?
- To allow observation without entering sensitive areas
- To make the wetland dry
- To remove signs about birds
- To collect plants for schools
A:To allow observation without entering sensitive areas。without walking directly through sensitive areas。
問29:Why is the increase in center visitors difficult to explain?
- No one visited the area
- Advertising and weather also changed
- The information center was closed
- Visitor counts were never reported
B:Advertising and weather also changed。also began advertising / weather unusually pleasant。
問30:Why is the town cautious about widening the path?
- People cannot walk on wood
- The path requires no maintenance
- More construction could disturb habitat
- The schools want to close it
C:More construction could disturb habitat。construction might disturb more wetland habitat。
問31:What do teachers tell students about observing fewer birds?
- It always proves that birds have disappeared
- They should collect birds for evidence
- The observation cannot be influenced by weather
- One day’s count may not show population decline
D:One day’s count may not show population decline。does not necessarily mean … population has declined。
Writing|
Some local libraries lend portable reading lights to people who want to study at home. The lights are useful in places with poor lighting, and borrowers do not have to purchase equipment they will use only occasionally. Library staff also explain how to use the lights safely.
However, the devices require charging, cleaning, and regular checks. Batteries may lose capacity over time, and some borrowers forget to return equipment by the deadline. Libraries therefore need simple borrowing rules and budgets for replacement parts.
One library plans to evaluate the program after six months. Staff will examine the number of loans and maintenance costs before deciding whether to buy more lights.
Some libraries lend portable reading lights to help people study without purchasing equipment. Staff also provide safety guidance. However, the lights need charging, cleaning, and maintenance, and borrowers may return them late. One library plans to review demand and costs after six months before deciding whether to expand the service.
TOPIC: Do you think local communities should offer more quiet places where teenagers can study?
I think local communities should provide more quiet study spaces for teenagers. First, some students cannot concentrate easily at home because their living spaces are crowded or noisy. A small public reading room would give them a useful alternative. Second, such places could help students develop regular study habits. For example, a library could offer reserved desks and clear rules about noise. However, the community should also consider maintenance costs and fair access. If spaces are planned carefully, they could support young people without requiring every family to buy extra equipment.
