①文脈:前後の文の関係が対比なのか理由・結果なのかを読む(but、however、so、as a result)。

After lunch, a guest speaker will show how to check whether information found online is reliable. The workshop will finish at 3:00 p.m.

A group of students wanted to know whether reading short English passages regularly could help them answer questions more accurately. They invited forty-five students to read for fifteen minutes each day over four weeks. The students chose topics such as sports, science, music, and travel.

At the start of the project, every student completed a short reading task. After four weeks, they completed a similar task. Twenty-seven students received higher scores, twelve received almost the same scores, and six received lower scores.

The organizers were pleased with the results, but a teacher warned them against a simple conclusion. The project had no comparison group that followed a different study routine. Also, students had different English classes and some had studied with tutors outside school.

The group reviewed how students chose their reading materials. Many students said they preferred texts connected to their interests. However, this did not prove that one topic was better than another for improving reading skills.

For the next project, the students planned to use two reading schedules and collect information about study time outside the project. They also wanted to measure not only speed but accuracy, so that they could see whether students truly understood what they read.

Q31. How many students joined the project? A. Forty / B. Twenty-seven / C. Forty-five / D. Fifty

Q32. How long did students read each day? A. Fifteen minutes / B. Five minutes / C. Thirty minutes / D. An hour

Q35. How many students had almost the same scores? A. Twelve / B. Twenty-seven / C. Six / D. Thirty

Q36. How many students scored lower? A. Twenty-seven / B. Twelve / C. Six / D. Forty-five

Q37. What was missing from the study? A. Reading materials / B. A teacher / C. Students from two cities / D. A comparison group

Q38. Why might scores differ for other reasons? A. Some students had different classes and outside tutoring / B. All students followed exactly the same routine / C. The passages were in Japanese / D. No one completed the tasks

Q39. What did the preference survey suggest? A. Music books were always best / B. Interest-related texts were popular / C. Science books made everyone better / D. Topic never mattered

Q40. What will the next project measure in addition to speed? A. The number of school buildings / B. The prices of dictionaries / C. Reading accuracy and outside study time / D. The length of school lunches

Q11 正解B|but。
