NEW TREASURE(ニュートレジャー)Stage5のRead・Critical Writingでは、同じ出来事について書かれた英文でも、official notice(公式通知)・opinion column(意見記事)・advertisement(広告)・research report(調査報告)で文章の目的と根拠が違います。

  • Official Notice:

Source A: Official school notice (fictional): The school has not approved any change to library opening hours. The student committee will submit a proposal for a four-week Friday trial to the principal next Thursday. Students may provide comments through the school platform by Wednesday at noon. Existing closing times remain in effect unless the principal approves a trial. No information about staffing costs has yet been released. This notice reports the current procedure and does not recommend a particular decision.

Source B: Student opinion column (fictional): I believe a supervised Friday trial of longer library hours would be worth considering. During one visit at 4 p.m., I counted 20 of 24 seats occupied. This is not evidence of demand every day, and I do not know how much staffing would cost. Nevertheless, a small trial with suitable supervision could help the school collect better evidence. The principal should review the safety and staffing conditions before approving any change.

問1:Which text is a notice of the current official status?

問2:Which text is explicitly an argument for a trial?

問3:Has the library extension been approved?

問4:When may students submit comments?

問5:When will the committee submit the proposal?

問6:How many seats were occupied in the student’s observation?

問7:Does that observation establish daily demand?

問8:What does the student recommend as a condition for a trial?

問9:Which sentence would be misleading in a summary of both texts?

問10:Write a 75–105-word genre-aware synthesis.

Source A: Promotional flyer (fictional): Try the new Study Buddy word-review app! Its short review exercises are designed to make vocabulary practice convenient. The first two sessions are free for eligible students. Our draft slogan says, ‘Everyone will achieve higher English scores!’ However, the flyer contains no test-score evidence. Students need to check the current participation conditions before applying. The app and its claims exist only in this classroom exercise.

Source B: Small pilot report (fictional): Sixteen volunteers were invited to test one twenty-minute word-review session with the imaginary app. Eleven completed the session, and five did not. The organisers did not record reasons for non-completion. They collected no examination scores or vocabulary-retention tests. The trial measured completion of one session, not academic improvement. Volunteers were not randomly chosen from the whole school, so the results cannot establish how all students would use the app.

問11:What is Source A’s main communicative purpose?

問12:What does ‘free for the first two sessions’ mean?

問13:What unsupported promise appears in the flyer?

問14:What quantity did Source B actually measure?

問15:Calculate the completion rate among the sixteen volunteers.

問16:How many volunteers did not complete the session?

問17:Can the report explain why those five did not finish?

問18:Can the pilot verify the advertised increase in English scores?

問19:Should readers assume a report is always accurate and an advertisement always false?

問20:Write a balanced two-source summary.

Source A: Event invitation (fictional): A school will hold an optional English presentation workshop on Friday at 4 p.m. in Room 204. The room has twenty-five seats. Interested students should register by Thursday noon. The school will notify applicants of their confirmation status. An application alone does not guarantee a place. The invitation describes a future event and gives no attendance figures.

Source B: Post-event report (fictional): After the workshop, the organising team recorded twenty-two confirmed registrations and eighteen actual attendees. Four confirmed registrants did not attend. The event took place on the scheduled Friday in Room 204. No satisfaction questionnaire or learning test was conducted. The report describes attendance rather than changes in students’ English presentation skills.

問21:Which source invites readers to a future event?

問22:Which source reports what happened afterward?

問23:What was the maximum room capacity?

問24:What was the registration deadline?

問25:Did applying automatically guarantee a seat?

問26:How many confirmed registrations were recorded?

問27:How many students actually attended?

問28:Calculate attendance as a share of confirmed registrations.

問29:Did the report show that presentation skills improved?

問30:Write a two-genre comparison preserving the timeline.

Source A: School monitoring update (fictional): Staff inspected one hundred waste items before changing the signs on sorting bins and one hundred items afterward. The number found in the wrong bin fell from thirty to twenty. During the same period, teachers also gave short verbal reminders. The observations were made on different days. The update reports fewer recorded errors but says the contribution of the signs alone is unknown.

Source B: Personal blog comment (fictional): The new bin signs have clearly solved every recycling problem in our school! Everyone now sorts waste correctly. Since the signs worked perfectly, teachers should stop reminding students. We should immediately use the same signs at every school. These statements are the writer’s views; the writer provides no additional measurements.

問31:Which source directly reports observed counts?

問32:What were the incorrectly sorted item counts?

問33:Calculate the earlier observed error rate.

問34:Calculate the later observed error rate.

問35:What was the difference in percentage points?

問36:Is ‘all students now sort correctly’ supported?

問37:Which additional intervention could explain part of the change?

問38:Does Source A prove the signs caused the full reduction?

問39:What is the main weakness in the blog comment?

問40:Write a source-aware synthesis of the update and opinion.

1:Source A is the official school notice.

2:Source B is the student opinion column.

3:No. The proposal has not been approved.

4:By Wednesday at noon through the school platform.

5:Next Thursday.

6:Twenty of twenty-four seats were occupied.

7:No. It is a single observation at 4 p.m.

8:Suitable supervision plus safety and staffing review.

9:The school has approved longer hours and will open every Friday.

10:The official notice states that library hours have not changed and that a four-week Friday trial is only a proposal for the principal. Students can comment by Wednesday noon, and staffing costs are not yet public. A student opinion column supports considering a supervised trial, citing one observation of 20 occupied seats out of 24 at 4 p.m. The writer also acknowledges that daily demand is unknown. The notice reports the formal status, whereas the column argues for a possible next step. Neither text shows that longer hours have been approved.

11:To promote a fictional vocabulary-review app.

12:Only the first two sessions are stated to be free for eligible students.

13:The draft slogan says everyone will achieve higher scores.

14:Whether invited volunteers completed one twenty-minute session.

15:Eleven of sixteen completed it, or 68.75 percent.

16:Five volunteers did not complete it.

17:No. Reasons for non-completion were not recorded.

18:No. No test scores or vocabulary-retention outcomes were collected.

19:No. Claims in either genre require evidence and careful interpretation.

20:A fictional advertisement promotes the Study Buddy vocabulary app and states that eligible students may use its first two sessions free. Its draft promise of higher scores for everyone has no supporting test results. A separate pilot involved sixteen volunteers, eleven of whom completed one twenty-minute session, a completion rate of 68.75 percent. The organisers did not examine vocabulary retention, examination scores or why five volunteers stopped. Thus the trial supplies information about short-session completion, not whether the product improves English ability. The advertising claim should be assessed only when suitable evidence is available.

21:Source A is the event invitation.

22:Source B is the post-event report.

23:The room had twenty-five seats.

24:Thursday at noon.

25:No. Confirmation was a separate step.

26:Twenty-two confirmed registrations were recorded.

27:Eighteen students attended.

28:Eighteen out of twenty-two attended, about 81.8 percent.

29:No. Learning outcomes were not measured.

30:The invitation announced a future Friday workshop in Room 204, with twenty-five seats and a Thursday-noon registration deadline. It warned that applying would not guarantee a place. After the event, the organisers reported twenty-two confirmed registrations and eighteen attendees. Four confirmed students did not attend, so approximately 81.8 percent of confirmed registrants participated. The invitation described requirements and plans, whereas the report recorded what actually happened. Neither source provides evidence that participants’ English presentation skills improved, since no learning test was conducted.

31:Source A reports the recorded item counts.

32:Thirty items before and twenty afterward.

33:The earlier error rate was 30 percent.

34:The later error rate was 20 percent.

35:The recorded rate fell by ten percentage points.

36:No. Twenty incorrectly sorted items were still recorded afterward.

37:Teachers also gave verbal reminders.

38:No. The independent effect of the signs was not isolated.

39:It makes universal causal claims without new evidence.

40:The school update recorded a fall in incorrectly sorted items from thirty to twenty out of one hundred checks, reducing the observed error rate from 30 to 20 percent. It also noted that teachers gave verbal reminders during the period. A personal blog comment interpreted the result as proof that the signs solved every problem and recommended ending reminders, but it offered no additional measurements. The monitoring data support a reduction in recorded errors, not the claim that every student sorts correctly or that signs alone caused the change. Further comparable checks would be needed before making such decisions.
