③assumed、thought、might、did not seeなどで推測を識別。

Student Aya’s diary, Monday evening: I arrived at the school garden at 8:10 a.m. and found that the wooden sign announcing the flower exhibition was missing. It had stood near the east gate on Friday. I saw a maintenance cart by the library but did not see anyone carry the sign. I assumed that somebody had removed it without asking the gardening club. At lunch I told my friends that the sign had probably been taken away. I felt angry because our club had painted it for two afternoons. After school, I left a message asking for an explanation. I did not know that the sign had become unstable over the weekend.

Caretaker Mori’s log, Monday evening: At 7:45 a.m. I inspected the garden gate. The sign’s wooden support had cracked, and the board moved when I touched it. I took the sign into the maintenance room at 8:00 and left a note for the garden supervisor. I planned to repair the support by Tuesday. I did not notify every student individually, and I had no idea that Aya arrived at 8:10. At 3:30 p.m., the supervisor told me that some students were concerned. I replied that the sign was safe in storage, not lost. The sign was not returned to the gate that evening, and no one had yet checked whether the paint needed repair.

Student Ken’s message, Thursday: The English lecture was supposed to begin at 2 p.m. according to the sheet that I received on Monday. I went to the lecture room at 1:40, but nobody was there. The notice on the door said that the starting time was now 3 p.m. I was annoyed because I had rearranged another appointment. I checked my email and could not find a correction in the messages I had opened. I thought the office might have forgotten to inform me. At 2:15, a classmate told me that a correction had been sent the previous day. I then searched the junk-mail folder and found it. I had not seen the message before arriving.

School office record, Thursday: At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, we received a request from the speaker to delay the lecture by one hour. We updated the website to 3 p.m. at 11:20 and sent the corrected notice to all registered addresses at noon. The system reported successful delivery to twenty-nine of thirty addresses and one undeliverable message. Ken’s address was among the twenty-nine marked delivered. However, delivery does not establish that a recipient opened or understood a message. On Thursday we placed a printed notice on the lecture-room door at 9 a.m. The room was opened to visitors at 2:45. The lecture began at 3 p.m. The attendance count was twenty-six, not thirty.

Visitor Sora’s written statement: During the open day, I was walking along the corridor outside the art room. At about 11:15, I heard a crash and saw two students run toward the door. A few seconds later, a teacher carried a broken wooden frame out of the room. I thought somebody must have knocked a picture from the wall. I did not see the frame fall, and I did not enter the room. The teacher told visitors to wait outside while the area was made safe. I saw no injuries. I reported what I had observed, but I could not identify who had caused the accident.

Art teacher’s incident report: At 11:12, I noticed that a display shelf was leaning because one of its supports was loose. I asked the students to move away. Before I could take down the frame resting on it, the shelf shifted and the frame fell onto the floor. It did not fall from the wall. The crash occurred at approximately 11:15. Two students approached after hearing the sound, and I asked them to remain near the entrance. No visitor was inside the room at that moment. I removed the broken frame and closed the area temporarily. No injuries were recorded. The maintenance team later confirmed that the shelf support needed repair. The report did not identify any student as the cause of the incident.

Student Emi’s journal: I asked the visiting scientist whether students could use the laboratory on Saturday. She replied, ‘It might be possible after the safety review.’ I heard the words ‘be possible’ and thought she had granted permission. I told my group that we could plan the experiment for Saturday. Later, our teacher asked for a written approval. I had none. I felt embarrassed because I realized I had treated a possibility as a decision. I returned to the speaker and asked whether the laboratory had actually been approved. She explained that the review was still in progress. We changed our plan to use the school library for preparing our questions. We did not perform the laboratory experiment that Saturday.

Visiting scientist’s follow-up email: Thank you for asking about Saturday access. During the session, I said that use of the laboratory might be possible after a safety review. I did not approve the visit. Access would require approval from the laboratory manager and confirmation of supervision. The review had not been completed by Friday afternoon. I understand that one group may have interpreted my answer as a promise. I apologize if my explanation was unclear. I suggest sending all requests through the manager so that the conditions and current approval status are documented. The laboratory was not available for unsupervised student use on Saturday, and I have not offered a date for a future visit.

慶英会モデル(資料C):Sora heard a crash but did not see the frame fall. She assumed that someone had knocked a picture off the wall. The teacher, who was inside the art room, reported that a loose display shelf caused the frame to fall. The two accounts therefore differ in what their speakers directly observed. The report does not identify a student as the cause of the accident.
