結論｜年表にするときは日付・事実・確定状況を3欄で整理

Readを読むときは最初に主節の時制・動詞に印を付け、年・月・日を一つずつ拾います。「予定していた」「実施した」「測定した」「これから行う」は異なる状態です。古い案内が訂正されているときは最新の日付を答えに使用しますが、変更のない項目を勝手に更新してはいけません。
A｜学校資料展示：修正前と修正後の出来事

過去完了が必要な箇所を見つける
By April 10, the club had collected forty photographs. は4月10日までに収集が完了したという意味です。一方 On May 20, the club opened an exhibition. は5月20日に開幕した事実を過去形で述べています。時点を示す表現と動詞を組み合わせて「いつまでに」「いつ」「それ以前に」を読み分けます。
すべての過去の出来事に過去完了を使うわけではありません。話の中心となる過去の動作は過去形が自然な場合が多く、過去の基準時より先行することを明確にする際に過去完了が効果的です。また、数値が増減した理由については本文が証明している範囲を超えて断定しないことが重要です。
採点の目安と3日間の復習
40問各1点で、36〜40点なら4英文を短い英語年表に作り直し、28〜35点なら日付を間違えた問題を再読。18〜27点なら最初に主節の時制とby / on / before / afterを確認。17点以下なら過去形・現在完了・過去完了の基本例文に戻ります。この得点区分は慶英会独自の目安です。
よくある質問
byとuntilは同じ意味ですか？ いいえ。byはある時点までの期限・完了、untilはその時点まで続く状態を表すのが基本です。
予定していたイベントの実施日と延期後の日付はどう区別しますか？ 最初の計画と後の訂正を別に記録し、実際に開催された日付を明示した英文を探します。
年表の練習は必ず過去完了を使いますか？ いいえ。時系列を過去形だけで十分に表せる場合もあります。比較する基準時が何かを確認しましょう。
