A group of students studied whether street trees made a shopping street more comfortable in summer. They measured the air temperature at four points at noon on three days. At the two points with large trees, the average temperature was 29°C. At the two points without trees, it was 32°C. The students first wrote that trees made the entire street three degrees cooler. Their teacher asked them to be more precise. The measurements had been taken at only four points, and the pavement materials were different. One of the shaded points was next to a stone wall, while one unshaded point was close to a bus stop where engines were running. The class had measured air temperature, not how comfortable every visitor felt. It also had not measured temperatures in the morning or evening. The students revised their report: on the three measurement days, the selected points with large trees had a lower average temperature than the selected points without trees. They suggested repeating the measurements at more places and recording humidity, sunlight, and pavement type. The teacher praised the revision because it described the evidence without claiming more than the study had shown.

A school cooking club compared labels on three packaged foods for a lesson about food safety. The first package said “Best before: 18 June” and had been stored unopened in a cool, dry place. The second said “Use by: 18 June” and required refrigeration. The third had no date visible because the label had been damaged. A student said that all three foods became unsafe at midnight on 18 June. The teacher explained that the labels did not support this conclusion. A best-before date generally relates to the period when the product is expected to keep its quality under the stated storage conditions. A use-by date is a safety-related limit, and the storage instructions matter. The damaged label gave the students no reliable date at all. The club did not taste any food whose safety could not be confirmed. Instead, it recorded the wording on each label, the storage conditions, and what information was missing. The teacher reminded the students that a classroom activity should not replace the instructions on actual food packaging or advice from a responsible adult. The purpose was to read information carefully, not to decide that every product follows the same rule.

A fictional school planned a short online exchange with students in another country. The first announcement said that twenty places were available and that applicants should submit a short introduction by Friday. The announcement did not mention whether students needed to have studied English for a certain number of years. Some students assumed that only those with high test scores could join. The teacher clarified that the purpose was to communicate, listen, and ask questions, not to select the highest-scoring students. Because the number of places was limited, the school would first check whether applications met the published requirements. If more than twenty eligible students applied, places would be assigned by a public lottery. Students who were not selected could still watch the final presentation recording, subject to the consent of the participants. The teacher also explained that students should not share private contact details in the exchange room. The class reviewed the announcement and suggested adding the application criteria, selection method, schedule, and privacy rules. The school revised the notice before opening the application period. The students concluded that a clear selection process helped applicants understand what was required and reduced the risk of unfair assumptions.

Some students prefer electronic books because they are easy to carry and can be enlarged on a screen. Others prefer printed books because they can write notes in the margins and do not need a charged device. I believe schools should provide access to both formats when possible. The best choice may depend on the task. For example, a student who needs to search for a word quickly may benefit from an electronic dictionary or searchable text. A student who wants to compare several pages or draw a diagram beside a paragraph may prefer a printed book. However, offering two formats does not automatically solve every problem. Schools must consider the cost of devices, access to the internet, and whether students can use the digital materials comfortably. They should also explain how to protect personal information when an online service is used. A school could ask students to try both formats for a month and then collect feedback about reading time, understanding, and convenience. The results would not prove that one format is best for every student, but they could help the school make a better decision for its own classes.
