英語長文で引くべき4種類の線

色は一色でも十分です。線・丸・四角などを使い、何を示しているか説明できれば構いません。学校に専用の線引き法がある場合はそれを優先し、教科書やワークの無断転載は避けてください。

実践手順｜設問に必要な根拠だけを示す

• 最初に設問が「誰」「いつ」「何人」「なぜ」「本文の主張」のどれを求めるか判断する。
• 対応する英文に線を引き、前後にnot・only・however・条件があるか確認する。
• 数字には人数・回数・冊数などの単位を必ず添える。
• 解答後に、選んだ部分以外が根拠にならない理由を一つ説明する。

慶英会独自英文：The school environment club planned a weekend clean-up on Saturday, November 14. However, because heavy rain was expected, the organizers moved the event to Sunday, November 15. Volunteers should meet at the east gate at 8:45 a.m., although the actual cleaning will not start until 9:15. The school will provide gloves and bags, but participants need to bring their own drinking water. Anyone who cannot attend must contact Mr. Hall by Friday at noon. Only students who registered by Wednesday may join the event. A message sent on Thursday included the new schedule, but some students read only the original announcement. To prevent confusion, the organizers placed signs near the main entrance explaining that the meeting point would be at the east gate, not the main gate. The club hoped to collect at least twenty bags of litter. The amount collected would be counted after the event, so the organizers had not reported any results yet.

古い鉄道駅の調査｜人物と根拠の違い（Q9〜Q16）

慶英会独自英文：Nina and Omar prepared a short presentation about their town’s old railway station. Nina wanted to collect photographs, while Omar preferred interviewing people who remembered the building. They agreed to do both. At the first interview, an elderly resident said that trains had stopped at the station until the late 1980s. The student team found a photograph dated 1991, but the photograph did not show a train. Nina initially thought this proved that the station had closed before 1991. Omar was not convinced: the image could have been taken when no train was present. Their teacher advised them to check an official timetable rather than rely on a single photograph. The students discovered that the station had stopped serving passenger trains in 1988 but had been used for freight deliveries for several years afterward. They changed their presentation to distinguish the end of passenger services from the end of all railway activity. Nina said the correction had made the presentation more accurate, even though it had taken extra time.

学習室の試行｜増加と因果の区別（Q17〜Q24）

慶英会独自英文：A town opened a small study space near its bus terminal. The project team believed that easier access would encourage high school students to study after classes. During the first four weeks, the number of registered users rose from 45 to 72. Average weekly visits also increased from 18 to 23. The team was pleased, but it could not tell whether more individual students were visiting or the same students were visiting more often. In addition, no exam scores or homework completion rates were measured. A survey of students who visited regularly found that most respondents liked the quiet environment. However, the survey did not include students who registered but never visited. A researcher advised the team to avoid claiming that the space had improved learning results. The team decided to interview non-visitors and collect attendance records for eight more weeks. It will also ask students about travel time and opening hours before deciding whether to extend the project.

慶英会独自英文：A school tracked a four-week reading project with three groups. Group A had 20 registered students, 14 students who attended at least twice, and 35 books borrowed. Group B had 18 registered students, 16 students who attended at least twice, and 29 books borrowed. Group C had 25 registered students, 12 students who attended at least twice, and 41 books borrowed. The school did not record whether a student read each borrowed book completely. It also did not test reading comprehension before or after the project. The teacher said the number of books borrowed was encouraging, but it did not demonstrate that reading ability had improved. She asked students to describe what they enjoyed in the next survey rather than simply give the books a star rating.
