② registered / downloaded と actually used / completed は違う。

A junior high school tested a translation app to help visiting students understand school notices. The app could quickly translate short messages about classroom changes and school events. Some teachers thought it would help students who had only recently arrived in Japan.

However, one notice said that a science room was available after four o’clock only with a teacher’s permission. In a test, the app produced a version that did not clearly include the permission requirement. A teacher noticed the problem before the translated message was sent.

長文2|学習アプリの利用記録|登録者と学習者は別

A school introduced a vocabulary app for students who wanted extra practice at home. During the first month, 180 students downloaded it. However, only 105 students completed at least one lesson. Teachers reminded parents that downloading an app was not the same as using it.

The app let students choose practice sets and showed them which words they had answered incorrectly. It also offered reminders. Some students liked the feature, while others said that too many notifications made it difficult to concentrate.

The school compared a small group of app users with students who studied without the app. Because students had chosen their own study methods, the groups were not necessarily similar. Teachers said they could not yet conclude that the app had caused higher test scores. They planned to ask students about their experiences before making the service compulsory.

長文3|環境センサーの測定|観測と原因の違い

A science club placed two air-quality sensors near a public park. One sensor stood beside a busy road, and the other was located near a group of trees. Students recorded readings on ten afternoons. On seven afternoons, the sensor near the road showed a higher level of particles.

At first, several students argued that traffic must be the only cause. Their teacher pointed out that wind direction and nearby construction might also influence the readings. The club had not measured those factors during its first study.

The students decided to repeat the measurements while recording weather conditions. They also planned to compare the sensors themselves to check whether both were working correctly. The club would publish a report after the new data were reviewed, rather than describe its early observations as final proof.

復習:この技術でできたこと、できなかったこと、未確認のことをそれぞれ英文1文で説明し、本文にない断定を加えていないか確かめましょう。

長文4|博物館の写真検索|分類と公開許可は別

A museum tested a tool that searched old photographs by recognizing objects such as bridges, bicycles, and buildings. The tool helped staff find possible matches among hundreds of images. However, it sometimes confused a railway bridge with a road bridge, so a historian checked every suggested match.

The museum wanted to let students search the collection online. First, staff needed permission from families who had donated photographs. Some families agreed to display their pictures inside the museum but had not agreed to release them on the internet.

During the trial, the tool suggested 90 matches, but staff confirmed only 64 after checking the images. The director said that a suggested match was not the same as a verified identification. The museum would publish only images for which both the information and online-sharing permission had been checked.

このような推論の飛躍を避け、本文の may / could / not yet / only / before といった限定を残します。
