A school was having difficulty returning lost property to its owners. Every week, students left umbrellas, water bottles, and pencil cases in classrooms. Teachers placed these items in a box near the office, but students often could not tell which items belonged to them. The student council decided to create an online list with short descriptions and the dates the items were found. Some teachers worried that posting photographs of names or personal messages could reveal private information. (21), the council agreed to show only the type, color, and general location of each item. Students who thought an item was theirs had to describe a detail not shown on the list. This helped staff (22) the correct owner before returning it. After a month, the office had fewer unclaimed items. The council planned to review the system again to make sure the online information remained accurate and private.

With each speaker’s permission, we hope to share selected stories at next month’s local history exhibition.

What Makes a Study Room Useful?
When a middle school opened a new study room, teachers wanted to understand how students would use it. The room had large tables for group work and a separate area with small desks. During the first four weeks, student volunteers counted how many people used each area after classes. They also asked visitors whether the room was quiet enough and which kinds of assignments they completed there.
The separate desks were more popular than the group tables during exam week, but on other days the two areas attracted similar numbers of students. Some visitors said that the large tables helped them prepare presentations together. Others preferred the individual desks because they could concentrate without hearing conversations. The teachers learned that students needed different spaces for different tasks.
However, the results did not show whether the study room itself had improved test scores. Students who visited the room may already have been more interested in studying, and some had taken extra lessons outside school. The school decided to keep both areas and to test different opening hours. Before making bigger changes, teachers planned to ask students who never used the room why they stayed away.
Q26 What did the school find about the two study areas?
- 1. Group tables were always more popular
- 2. Individual desks were more popular during exam week
- 3. The desks were never used
- 4. Students stopped preparing presentations
Q27 Why did some students prefer individual desks?
- 1. They were next to the cafeteria
- 2. They were easier to move outside
- 3. They helped students concentrate without nearby conversations
- 4. They were available only to older students
Q28 Why couldn’t the school conclude that the room improved test scores?
- 1. The room was permanently closed
- 2. No students ever visited
- 3. Everyone had exactly the same study habits
- 4. Some users were already motivated or had extra lessons
Q29 What will the school do before making bigger changes?
- 1. Ask students who never used the room about their reasons
- 2. Remove the group tables immediately
- 3. Close the room during exam weeks
- 4. Require every student to study there

1:Therefore
2:identify

2:Individual desks were more popular during exam week
根拠:during exam week と on other days の対比。
3:They helped students concentrate without nearby conversations
根拠:because they could concentrate without hearing conversations。
4:Some users were already motivated or had extra lessons
1:Ask students who never used the room about their reasons
根拠:ask students who never used the room why they stayed away。
I think students in my town would enjoy a weekend storytelling workshop because they could share interesting local experiences. Your storytelling workshop sounds useful. How long does each session last? Can participants record their own stories? I would like to join a similar activity at our community center.
I think schools should provide more quiet spaces for students to study after classes. First, some students find it difficult to concentrate in busy places such as cafeterias. A quiet room can help them finish homework. Second, students can ask teachers for help when they cannot understand a difficult question, which may improve their confidence.
