Subject: Astronomy Evening — Registration and Weather Plans Our community center is organizing Astronomy Evening on Saturday, November 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free. Anyone wishing to use a telescope must reserve a twenty-minute time slot by November 16. A confirmation email will be sent on November 18. Submitting a form does not guarantee a booking if all slots are full. If the weather is too cloudy for outdoor observation, registered visitors may attend an indoor presentation instead. We will announce the decision by 3 p.m. on November 21. People interested only in the indoor presentation do not need a telescope reservation, but they should check the final notice for room-capacity restrictions.

A regional museum has begun a project to preserve old letters and photographs from local families. Paper records can fade or become damaged in unsuitable conditions. The museum invites residents to lend selected items for scanning. Original materials are returned after staff check their condition, and families can choose whether digital copies may be displayed publicly. Some volunteers believe online access will make local history easier to study, especially for people who cannot visit the museum often. Others worry about privacy because personal letters sometimes contain information about people who are still living. The museum therefore requires permission before publishing any digital copy, and families may keep copies private. The museum has scanned several hundred items but has not measured how often students use them for learning. This is still a trial. Staff will examine preservation costs and privacy rules before expanding the collection.

問28|Why is the museum scanning old letters and photographs?

  1. To replace history teachers
  2. To preserve materials that may deteriorate
  3. To sell all originals
  4. To stop public research

問29|What happens to the original items?

  1. They are always published
  2. They are destroyed
  3. They are returned to families
  4. They are sold

問30|What concern is raised by some people?

  1. The museum has too many rooms
  2. No photos can fade
  3. School books are too short
  4. Privacy of living people mentioned in letters

問31|What is not yet measured?

  1. How frequently students use digital records
  2. Whether items were scanned
  3. Whether families can keep copies private
  4. Whether the museum accepts letters

28:B(To preserve materials that may deteriorate)。

29:C(They are returned to families)。

30:D(Privacy of living people mentioned in letters)。

31:A(How frequently students use digital records)。

Some local libraries have begun lending musical instruments, including small keyboards and ukuleles, to people who cannot easily afford them. Supporters believe the service may help children and adults try music before buying their own instruments. Borrowers can practice at home and find out whether they enjoy playing regularly.

However, instruments may be expensive to repair. Library staff must check each item when it is returned, and some borrowers may not understand how to handle it safely. Popular instruments can also be unavailable when many people request them. These problems require additional staff and storage space.

Several libraries are running short trials with limited collections. They record how often instruments are borrowed and ask users for feedback. Before expanding, they plan to examine maintenance costs and the condition of returned instruments. They have not yet measured whether borrowers continue studying music after the trial.

Some libraries lend musical instruments so residents can try music without buying their own equipment. This may make learning easier, but repairs, safe handling, and limited supplies create challenges. Libraries are testing small collections and gathering feedback before expanding, while longer-term effects on musical learning have not been measured.

TOPIC: Do you think towns should offer more free science events for families on weekends?

I think towns should offer more free science events for families on weekends. First, these events could give children chances to learn through simple experiments rather than textbooks alone. Parents could also discuss scientific ideas with their children at home afterward. Second, free events might help families who cannot pay for private activities. However, organizers would need trained staff and clear safety rules, especially when visitors use equipment. I believe towns should begin with small events and review feedback before expanding them. For these reasons, I support offering more opportunities to explore science together.
