Some libraries have begun small programs that allow residents to take home packets of seeds for growing plants. Unlike ordinary book lending, the goal is not always to return the original item. Instead, participants may collect seeds from the plants they grow and share some of those seeds with the library if possible. The idea is to make gardening easier for people who do not have much experience. The program may help people learn about plant growth and local food production. However, libraries need to check that shared seeds are suitable for the region and safe to distribute. Staff must also explain that some types of seeds will not grow successfully in every season. The number of packets available is limited, and participants may be asked to choose only one or two kinds at a time. Several libraries have started short trials. They record how many seed packets are distributed and collect feedback from participants. However, they have not measured whether the projects lead to a long-term increase in gardening or food production. The organizers plan to review supply costs and educational results before expanding their collections.

問28|How is the seed program different from ordinary book lending?

  1. Participants may share new seeds instead of returning the original ones
  2. Every participant must return the exact same seeds
  3. All seeds are rented for money
  4. The library forbids gardening

問29|Why do staff check shared seeds?

  1. To change library membership fees
  2. To make sure they are suitable and safe to distribute
  3. To guarantee success in every season
  4. To compare train schedules

問30|What may limit a participant’s choices?

  1. A requirement to buy a book
  2. A mandatory national examination
  3. A limited supply of seed packets
  4. The closing of every library

問31|What has not been measured?

  1. The number of packets distributed
  2. Whether some residents received seeds
  3. Whether feedback was collected
  4. Long-term effects on gardening and food production

28:A(Participants may share new seeds instead of returning the original ones)。return same item not required, share collected seeds if possible。

問29:B(To make sure they are suitable and safe to distribute)。

30:C(A limited supply of seed packets)。limited number of packets。

問31:D(Long-term effects on gardening and food production)。long-term effects unmeasured。

Some communities have started small programs in which residents can borrow sports equipment, such as balls, rackets, and helmets, from local centers. Supporters believe these programs could make physical activities easier to try, particularly for families who do not want to buy expensive equipment before knowing whether their children will enjoy a sport.

However, shared equipment requires careful management. Staff must inspect items for damage, clean them regularly, and explain how to use them safely. Popular equipment may be unavailable when many people want it at the same time. These tasks can create additional work and maintenance costs for community centers.

Some centers are testing the service for a limited period. They are recording how many items are borrowed and asking families about their experiences. Before expanding, the centers plan to review operating costs and safety reports. They have not yet measured whether participation in sports has increased in the longer term.

Community centers are testing sports-equipment lending programs to help families try activities without buying costly items. The services may encourage participation, but equipment safety, cleaning, limited availability, and maintenance costs create challenges. Organizers are collecting loan records and feedback, while long-term changes in sports participation have not yet been measured.

TOPIC: Do you think schools should teach more practical cooking skills to students?

I think schools should teach more practical cooking skills to students. First, students could learn how to prepare simple, healthy meals for themselves. This might help them become more independent when their parents are busy. Second, cooking lessons can teach planning and teamwork. For example, students may need to divide tasks and check instructions carefully. Of course, schools must provide safe equipment and supervise activities, which requires time and money. However, I believe the benefits are valuable if schools begin with basic lessons. For these reasons, I support offering more practical cooking education.
