英検長文で数値と条件を取り違えない４つの方法
①予定：originally、however、nowにより変更前と後を区別。②条件：only、must、ifなどがあれば、対象年齢・必要な条件を全て確認。③人数：応募60人と参加24人、実験の招待者と完了者などの母数を分ける。④因果：事実の数値と『こうかもしれない』という推測を分け、天候や条件の違いを考慮する。

A community centre wanted to make its English signs easier to follow. Group A prepared long directions with many details, while Group B used short instructions and large arrows. Each group tested its signs with twelve visitors. Eight people using Group A’s design found the meeting room without help, compared with ten using Group B’s design. The students were pleased with the second result and said the arrows must have caused the improvement. Their teacher reminded them that the two groups had not tested the same visitors. The centre was also more crowded during the first test. Therefore, the students could not know whether the design alone explained the difference. They decided to repeat the comparison at the same time of day with a larger group. They also planned to ask visitors which words had been confusing. 第4題｜地域の英語案内改善プロジェクト・全文和訳
地域センターは英語案内を改善しようとしました。A班は詳しい長文、B班は短い指示と大きな矢印を用意し、それぞれ12人の来訪者に試しました。Aでは８人、Bでは10人が助けなしに会議室を見つけました。生徒は矢印が差の原因だと考えましたが、先生は試した来訪者が同じではなく、Aの実験時は施設がより混雑していたと指摘しました。そこで同じ時間帯でより多くの人に比較し、どの単語が分かりにくかったか尋ねることにしました。センターの責任者は再調査まで常設案内の印刷を延期しました。見た目のよさと実際の使いやすさは同じではないと学びました。

14日間の復習と学校内の質問・自学ノート
１〜４日目：１日１題を解き、間違えた問題を『日時・対象者・数量・条件・推測』に分類します。正解でも本文の根拠を指せない場合は復習対象です。未習の文法は学校の進度に合わせます。
５〜７日目：全訳を見て英文の主語・動詞、because、however、only、ifを確認します。自学ノートには単なる正答ではなく、間違えた理由を一文で書き、学校の英語演習で教員に質問する内容を２〜３点まとめます。
８〜11日目：本記事の数字・時刻・曜日・対象年齢を変えた別の質問を作り、最初に見た答えを丸暗記していないか試します。医科ジュニアでは科学・医療に関する英語の資料を読むときも、根拠と仮説を分けることが大切です。
12〜14日目：４題を順序を変えて再テストし、初見正答数、根拠を説明できた問題数、同じ誤答の再発数を比較。学校の教材・期末考査・提出物を優先し、必要な場合に限って学校英語と英検の弱点を個別に補います。
結果を英検の合否確率や学校の公式評価へ換算しないでください。学校の週１演習・放課後質問で改善するなら、外部塾を追加せず学習方法を継続することも合理的です。
