時when / as soon as起点・順序
相関接続詞not only … but also / both … and複数の項目を並列に示す

becauseThe event changed because the hall was closed.
althoughAlthough the hall was closed, the event continued.
even ifEven if a result is unexpected, it must be checked.
unlessUnless we collect evidence, we cannot conclude.

so thatの目的とso … thatの結果は別

They moved bicycles so that riders could find one.
The station was so busy that no bicycles remained.
They checked records in order to improve access.

  • not only A but also B:AだけでなくBも。The library not only corrected labels but also recorded the reasons.
  • both A and B:AもBも。Students measured both water and temperature.
  • either A or B:AかBのどちらか。
  • neither A nor B:AもBも〜ない。

Although a digital museum archive allows students to examine photographs from distant places, images alone may not tell the whole story. Because several dates were missing, librarians asked local historians to review the descriptions. They added notes so that students could separate verified facts from guesses. If teachers use the archive in class, they should explain why some records remain uncertain. Unless further evidence is found, the exact dates of several photographs cannot be confirmed. One early label was so unclear that two groups gave different explanations of the same image. The staff not only corrected the label but also recorded the reason for each correction. Even if more translations become available, they will continue reviewing important details. As soon as a visitor identifies a possible mistake, the team checks the original source instead of silently replacing the description. This approach values accuracy over an impressive but unsupported story.

8:not only … but also/both … andによる二つの項目を取り出す。

Although shared bicycles can make short journeys easier, a coastal town found that stations did not always have enough bicycles at busy times. Because visitors borrowed many bicycles near the railway station, some other stations still had unused ones. Workers recorded recent journeys so that they could move bicycles to places where demand was higher. If the town expands the network, it will first compare demand across different days. Unless return locations are considered, adding more bicycles may not solve the problem. One weekend was so busy that a popular station had no bicycles left before lunch. The town council wanted not only to improve availability but also to understand whether the system replaced car journeys. Even if the number of rentals rises, a reduction in car use cannot be assumed. The council plans to ask users how they would have travelled without the service, and it will avoid announcing environmental benefits before collecting reliable evidence.

17:not only … but also/both … andによる二つの項目を取り出す。

Although plants near a sunny classroom window grew taller, students could not conclude that light alone caused the difference. Because the two groups had received unequal amounts of water, their teacher asked them to repeat the experiment. The class measured water carefully so that each group could be compared more fairly. If the new results remain different, students will examine other possible factors, such as soil and temperature. Unless these conditions are controlled, the cause of the growth difference will remain uncertain. The first report was so confident that several readers overlooked the missing information about water. For the new report, students will record both their observations and the limits of their conclusions. Even if a result matches their original expectation, they must explain how the experiment was conducted. As soon as the new observations are complete, they will compare the evidence before writing a final claim. Their goal is not to prove a favourite answer but to test it.

26:not only … but also/both … andによる二つの項目を取り出す。

Although the school speech contest attracted many confident speakers, some quieter students wanted more time to prepare. Because participants had different levels of experience, teachers introduced optional practice sessions. They shared sample outlines so that students could organize a claim, reasons and examples before speaking. If students requested feedback early, they could practise again before the event. Unless the practice room was booked in advance, it could not be guaranteed during the busiest week. At one rehearsal, the sound system was so unreliable that several speeches had to be repeated. The organizers therefore checked equipment and printed backup copies of each schedule. Their plan was not only to improve presentation skills but also to make the event more accessible to beginners. Even if a student made a mistake, the teacher encouraged the speaker to finish the message. The school evaluated clarity and evidence rather than treating difficult vocabulary as proof of a strong argument.

35:not only … but also/both … andによる二つの項目を取り出す。

  • 2. Because several dates were missing, librarians sought expert review.
  • 3. Digital access is useful, but photographs alone can be incomplete.
  • 4. Teachers should explain uncertainty if they use the archive.
  • 5. Without further evidence, some dates cannot be confirmed.
  • 6. To help students distinguish verified facts from guesses.
  • 7. An unclear label led two groups to interpret one photograph differently.
  • 8. The staff corrected labels and recorded reasons for corrections.
  • 9. 慶英会模範要約(40語): Digital museum archives broaden access to photographs, but missing dates can create uncertainty. Librarians therefore consult historians and add notes so students can distinguish evidence from guesses. They also document corrections and continue reviewing sources rather than presenting unsupported claims.

  • 11. Because bicycles were borrowed unevenly, workers studied journey patterns.
  • 12. Shared bicycles improve convenience, but availability differs by station.
  • 13. Before expanding, the town will compare demand across days.
  • 14. Adding bicycles alone may fail if return locations are ignored.
  • 15. To move bicycles to places where demand was higher.
  • 16. The station became empty before lunch because demand was very high.
  • 17. The council wants availability and evidence about car substitution.
  • 18. 慶英会模範要約(39語): A shared-bicycle program made short journeys easier but suffered uneven availability. Workers used journey records to redistribute bicycles, while officials planned to assess demand before expansion. Higher rentals alone cannot prove reduced car travel, so user surveys are needed.
