However, the survey asked only about students’ plans to visit; it did not measure changes in reading ability.

植物の実験を説明するレポート（問6〜10）

慶英会独自の架空英文：Students placed one plant near a sunny window and another in a darker corner. After two weeks, the first plant had grown five centimeters and the second had grown three centimeters. The report recorded these measurements. The students suggested that light might have affected growth, but both plants had received different amounts of water. Therefore, the experiment alone could not show that light was the only cause. The teacher recommended repeating the test under more similar conditions.

In the report, the group wrote that walking was the most common choice among the students who answered. A classmate then claimed that most students in the whole town walked to school. The teacher said that the survey could not support this claim because it included only 80 students from one school.

慶英会独自の架空英文：The museum opens at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays and closes at 5:00 p.m. Students can enter for a reduced price if they show their school cards. The museum website recommends allowing at least two hours for the main exhibition. A visitor wrote that every student would enjoy the exhibition, but the notice did not provide evidence about every student’s preferences. It only explained the opening hours, discount conditions, and a suggested visit length.

よくある質問

本文にない答えが一般常識として正しければ正解ですか？

本文内容を問う設問では、本文の根拠が必要です。現実には正しい可能性があっても、本文が述べていない場合は断定しないようにします。

筆者の意見と事実はどう見分けますか？

評価語や主観表現、should、bestなどを手がかりにしつつ、文章全体で誰の発言か確認します。意見の中に事実が含まれる場合もあります。

mayやmightがあれば間違いですか？

いいえ。可能性を適切に示す表現です。ただし、可能性であることを確定した事実に変えてはいけません。
