意見を書く際はClaim(主張)→Evidence(根拠)→Limitation(限界)→Counterargument(反論)→Conditional conclusion(条件付き結論)の順に整えると、断定しすぎない英文になります。
coordinate:協調する、collective choice:集団の選択、independent judgment:独立した判断、misleading example:誤解を招く例、comparable conditions:比較可能な条件、does not prove:証明しない、may / might:可能性を示す表現。
In a fictional classroom simulation, forty students tried to find a safe route through a complex building plan. In Round 1, each student received a map and chose a route independently. Twenty-four students selected a route that met all three conditions: it avoided stairs, passed a staffed entrance and stayed outside a restricted corridor. In Round 2, a different group of forty students saw the most common route selected by four earlier volunteers before choosing their own. Thirty students chose a route that met all three conditions. The teacher initially described this as proof that following a group improves decisions. However, students in Round 2 had a different amount of information, and the groups were not assigned randomly. Moreover, the simulation measured correct routes on one building plan, not students’ performance in emergencies. Some pupils suggested that shared advice may help people notice details, while others warned that a popular but mistaken route could spread quickly. The class agreed to test the same information under comparable conditions before recommending collective advice as a general rule.

A school robotics club built twelve small robots that moved through a floor maze. One mode allowed each robot to respond only to its own sensors. Another mode let each robot adjust its direction using signals from the two nearest robots. In the first trial, seven of the twelve robots in the independent mode reached the finish line within four minutes. In the group-signal mode, ten of the twelve finished. The students were excited, but they noticed that the independent mode had been tested in the morning and the group-signal mode after lunch, when the floor had been cleaned. The students had not measured whether changes in surface friction affected the outcome. They also discovered that the robots could follow one another into the same wrong passage if the leading robots made a mistake. A team member argued that shared signals were always superior. Another replied that cooperation can create both coordination and common errors. Their adviser asked them to repeat both modes in randomized order, record failures as well as successes, and avoid describing the experiment as a study of real fish.

A teacher gave forty-eight students an unfamiliar English reading passage. They answered a factual question privately, and thirty-two selected the correct option. Next, the teacher showed the whole class a sample answer that was intentionally wrong. Students were allowed to discuss the sample in groups of four before answering the question again. Twenty-eight chose the correct answer on the second attempt. The teacher did not tell them that the example was wrong until after the activity. Some students said that the confident explanation in the sample had made them doubt their first reading. Others said group discussion helped them identify the sentence containing the answer. The results cannot show that group work is generally harmful. The activity combined group discussion with exposure to a misleading example, and it did not measure each influence separately. The teacher proposed a follow-up with two groups: one receiving an accurate sample and the other receiving the misleading one, while preserving a fair procedure and informing students that all examples would be explained afterward.

At a fictional school, five student teams planned a cleanup of the courtyard. Two teams appointed a leader to assign tasks, while three allowed members to choose tasks independently. At the end of forty minutes, the leader-led teams collected twelve and fourteen bags of litter; the other teams collected eleven, fifteen and thirteen. Some students concluded that independent teams were more productive because their three teams collected thirty-nine bags in total, compared with twenty-six from the two leader-led teams. A teacher explained that comparing totals from three teams with totals from two was misleading. The average per team was thirteen bags in both arrangements. Moreover, the teams worked in different parts of the courtyard, and the weight or contents of the bags were not measured. A separate safety concern was raised when two independent groups briefly entered the same narrow area, making coordination difficult. The class decided not to select a universal rule about leaders. Instead, it planned to compare similar areas, track effort and safety, and ask whether a flexible coordinator might combine independence with clear communication.

解答3: 60% and 75%.
5: The most common choice of four earlier volunteers.
6: Shared advice may help people notice important details.
7: A popular but incorrect route could spread rapidly.
8: Although group advice may help, people still need to check the route independently.
9: The class should test comparable groups receiving the same information.
10: The group-informed class performed better in this simulation. However, differences in information and group assignment prevent a general causal conclusion.
解答11: Seven of twelve robots.
解答12: Ten of twelve robots.
解答13: Three robots.
14: The floor was cleaned between the two tests.
15: Robots may follow a leader into the same wrong passage.
16: Shared signals may help robots coordinate their movement.
17: Coordination can spread the same mistake to several robots.
18: The group-signal robots finished more often; nevertheless, the conditions differed.
19: Randomize the order and repeat both modes under comparable conditions.
20: No; these results concern classroom robots, not real fish.
解答21: Thirty-two of forty-eight.
解答22: Twenty-eight of forty-eight.
24: No, it was deliberately misleading.
25: Students also saw a misleading sample.
26: Identifying the sentence supporting the answer.
27: The confidently written wrong sample made them doubt their own reading.
28: Although fewer students answered correctly, the result does not prove discussion caused the decline.
解答29: Accurate and misleading samples.
30: Readers should check the original text rather than accept a popular answer without evidence.
解答31: Two teams.
解答32: Three teams.

37: The teams worked in different areas, and bag weights were not measured.
38: Two groups entered the same narrow area without coordination.
39: Independent work may be flexible, but coordination remains important for safety.
40: Independent decisions supported by a flexible coordinator.
Sharing a group’s choice can be useful, but it should not replace independent checking. In the classroom simulation, 30 of 40 students who saw earlier choices selected a valid route, compared with 24 of 40 students working independently. This difference is interesting, yet the groups were not randomly assigned and did not receive the same information. Consequently, the result does not prove that group advice always improves safety. A better test would provide comparable information and record how students respond when the most popular route is wrong. We should use collective suggestions as evidence to examine, not as instructions that cannot be questioned.
The group-signal mode appears promising, but the first trial is too limited to establish its superiority. Ten of twelve robots finished in that mode, compared with seven in the independent mode. Nevertheless, the tests occurred under different floor conditions, and only one trial of each mode was described. Shared signals may help robots coordinate, but they can also cause several robots to repeat a leader’s mistake. The club should randomize test order, keep the maze and surface conditions comparable, and record both success rates and incorrect turns. A cautious conclusion would be that the design deserves further testing rather than that cooperation is always best.
Group discussion is not automatically helpful or harmful. In this activity, 32 of 48 students answered correctly before discussion, whereas 28 did so afterward. However, the students had also been shown a misleading sample with a confident explanation. Since the two influences occurred together, the change cannot be attributed solely to discussion. Some students may have benefited from talking through the evidence, while others may have been influenced by the incorrect model. A more informative study would compare the effects of accurate and misleading examples under clearly described conditions. The lesson for readers is to verify a popular explanation against the original passage.
The cleanup results do not justify eliminating team leaders. The three independent teams collected thirty-nine bags, while the two leader-led teams collected twenty-six. These totals are not directly comparable because the number of teams differs. Each arrangement averaged thirteen bags per team. Even that comparison is limited, as the groups worked in different areas and the weight of the bags was not measured. Independent work may give students flexibility, but poor coordination can create safety problems. A reasonable next step would compare similar areas and include both productivity and safety measures. The best arrangement may involve independent decisions supported by a coordinator.
