The school library was preparing to exhibit old magazines on Thursday. On Monday, a student named Riku noticed three small drops of water on the floor beneath a window. The weather was clear, so he thought a visitor might have spilled a drink. He wiped the floor and continued arranging the shelves. On Tuesday morning, the same spot was damp again. He told the librarian, who placed a small tray near the window but could not immediately find the source. The library’s maintenance log showed that a seal around that window had been replaced during the summer. Nobody connected the note to the drops at first. On Wednesday afternoon, clouds gathered and rain began. A thin line of water appeared along the inside edge of the window frame. The librarian called the maintenance team, and staff moved the magazines away from the wall. The team found that part of the replacement seal was loose. They closed the window area until it could be repaired. By Thursday, the exhibition opened in another corner of the library. None of the magazines had been damaged. Looking back, Riku understood that the recurring drops and the maintenance note had prepared readers for the later discovery. The story does not say that he should have known the exact problem on Monday: a clue may invite attention without being enough to establish a cause before further evidence arrives.

During rehearsals for a school concert, the pianist Nao noticed that the final note of a melody sounded unusually quiet. On Monday she blamed herself for pressing the key too softly. The piano had recently been moved to the far end of the hall, where the floor was not perfectly level. On Tuesday she practiced with another pianist, who heard the same weak sound. The music teacher said that the note might be quieter because of the room’s acoustics, but asked the students to keep a record. On Wednesday, the technician found that a small part inside the instrument did not always move freely after the recent relocation. Nao was relieved that the difference had not been caused solely by her playing. The technician arranged a repair on Thursday morning. The concert was scheduled for Friday. In the final rehearsal, the last note sounded clear. The audience on Friday heard the complete melody, although the story does not say that every aspect of the performance was perfect. The weak note in the opening rehearsals foreshadows the technical problem discovered later. The uneven floor is a plausible clue but not proof that it caused the failure; the technician’s inspection identifies the mechanical issue.

The history club was preparing a timeline of the school’s old buildings. Each photograph had a number printed on its back. In the first folder, the numbers ran from 21 to 27, but the photograph labeled 24 showed a building that appeared newer than the building in photograph 25. Haru noticed this on Monday and wondered whether the buildings had been renovated at different times. The club did not change the order immediately. On Tuesday, a teacher asked them to compare the handwritten captions in the original notebook. The notebook contained a small correction mark beside number 24. A student suggested that the mark might be meaningless. On Wednesday, the group found another copy of the photographs in a box marked ‘Reprints.’ This copy showed that the numbers on photographs 24 and 25 had been exchanged during a later printing process. The original notebook confirmed the intended order. The club corrected the timeline before publishing it on Friday. The unusual appearance of photograph 24 and the mark in the notebook were early clues to the later discovery. The club did not assume that a modern-looking building must always be newer; visual appearance alone had not established the cause of the numbering problem.

A school science museum used a small bell to tell visitors that a guided tour was about to begin. At the first tour on Monday, the bell rang once, and thirty visitors gathered near the entrance. A student volunteer, Mika, noticed that the sound had become faint. The guide suggested that the bell might simply need cleaning. On Tuesday, it rang twice before the tour because the volunteer was unsure whether the first sound had been heard. The visitors began walking at different times, and the guide had to bring them together again. On Wednesday, the volunteer examined the bell and saw a small crack near its handle. The guide replaced it with a clearly audible chime and introduced a written rule: only one official starting signal would be used for each tour. By Thursday the tours began more consistently, although the museum had not measured every visitor’s experience. Looking back, the repeated faint bell sounds foreshadowed the need to change the communication method. A student suggested that the bell had always been unreliable, but the records covered only this week’s problem, not its entire history. The story does not claim the new chime made every possible misunderstanding impossible.

慶英会モデル(短編C):Early in the story, photograph 24 appears newer than photograph 25, and the original notebook contains a correction mark. These details foreshadow the later discovery that the numbers had been exchanged during reprinting. However, the first clue did not prove the cause by itself. The characters needed another set of photographs and the original record to confirm it.
