For example、However、Moreover、Nevertheless、For this reasonはどれも段落の冒頭に置けますが、意味は異なります。
However・Moreover・Nevertheless・For this reasonの使い分け
- However / Nevertheless:
- Moreover / Furthermore:
- For example:
- For this reason / Therefore:理由・根拠から判断を導く。
Paragraph A: A fictional student council proposes planting trees in the school courtyard. In a voluntary survey, 36 of 50 respondents supported more greenery, while 14 preferred keeping the current open space. The council believes the proposal deserves a limited trial, but the survey did not ask students about maintenance or accessibility.
Paragraph B: A different paragraph considers whether the trees can be maintained. The school has not estimated watering costs, examined underground services, or checked access routes for wheelchair users. Even a popular idea should not be approved without a workable maintenance and safety plan.
問1:What is the main point of Paragraph A?
問2:What is the main point of Paragraph B?
問3:Which transition best expresses the move from support to limitations: Moreover or However?
問4:Write a bridge sentence using However.
問5:Replace an unclear sentence ‘This is a problem’ with an explicit subject.
問6:Calculate the percentage supporting the idea among respondents.
問7:Is ‘All students want trees’ a suitable transition?
問8:Write a final sentence for Paragraph A pointing to Paragraph B.
問9:Write the first sentence of Paragraph B using In contrast correctly.
問10:Write a coherent two-paragraph synthesis of about 90–120 words.
Paragraph A: In a small classroom trial, 18 of 25 volunteers said that a digital homework checklist was easier to update than a paper list. Teachers observed that the checklist could be revised quickly. No study examined whether the digital tool improved examination results, and no responses were collected from students who did not join the trial.
Paragraph B: The planned system would collect student names and homework-completion dates. Access restrictions were proposed but had not been approved. Some families may need a printable version. The implementation decision depends on privacy safeguards and access needs, not only the preference survey.
問11:Identify the claim supported by the trial.
問12:Calculate the fraction of volunteers reporting easier updates.
問13:What is the new focus of Paragraph B?
問14:Choose a suitable transition: Therefore, it is already approved / Before adopting it, … .
問15:Use At the same time to link the two considerations.
問16:Why is ‘The tool raises grades’ not a valid bridge?
問17:Write a bridge sentence naming the new consideration.
問18:State the status of access restrictions.
問19:Write a suitable closing sentence for the privacy paragraph.
問20:Combine both paragraphs into a logically linked 90–120-word answer.
Paragraph A: A fictional class asked 40 volunteers whether they would join an optional morning walking group. Twenty-six said yes, nine said no, and five were unsure. The survey asked about willingness, not fitness outcomes. It did not measure how far participants lived from school or whether the route was suitable for them.
Paragraph B: A later planning note described the need for adult supervision, accessible routes and a safe meeting point. No staff roster or risk assessment had been approved. The school had not conducted a walking trial. The planners wanted to avoid assuming that a programme would be suitable for every student.
問21:What did the first survey measure?
問22:How many of the forty respondents selected yes?
問23:What proportion selected yes?
問24:What does the planning note add?
問25:Write a transition using Nevertheless appropriately.
問26:Explain why As a result, everyone will be healthier is invalid.
問27:Write a linking question at the end of Paragraph A.
問28:State one unapproved requirement.
問29:Give a cautious sentence that sums up both paragraphs.
問30:Write a cohesive 90–120-word two-paragraph answer.
Paragraph A: A fictional English department compared projected first-year costs for a printed practice pack and a digital worksheet platform. The printed pack was estimated at 60,000 yen for one group, and the digital platform at 45,000 yen for the same group. No payments had been made. The department stated that the first-year difference was 15,000 yen.
Paragraph B: A follow-up note described costs and practical needs beyond the first year. The digital platform might require annual renewal and technical support, but those amounts had not been estimated. Some students might require printed alternatives. The department had not calculated total costs over three years or tested the platform’s reliability.
問31:Give the claim supported by Paragraph A.
問32:State both first-year estimates.
問33:Can Paragraph A establish the cheaper option over three years?
問34:What additional uncertainty appears in Paragraph B?
問35:Which transition conveys a limitation: Furthermore or However?
問36:Write a precise bridge sentence with Yet.
問37:Correct ‘Digital is definitely cheaper forever’.
問38:What should a full comparison include?
問39:Write a final sentence for the second paragraph.
問40:Write an integrated 90–120-word two-paragraph explanation.

1:Paragraph A reports respondent support for a proposed planting trial.
2:Paragraph B examines maintenance, safety and accessibility conditions.
3:However is more appropriate because the second paragraph qualifies the initial support.
4:However, support among respondents does not remove the need for a safe maintenance plan.
5:The unmeasured costs and accessibility requirements could complicate the tree-planting trial.
6:Seventy-two percent of respondents supported more greenery.
7:No. The evidence concerns 36 of 50 voluntary respondents.
8:The next question is whether the courtyard can support the proposal safely and sustainably.
9:In contrast to the recorded preferences, the practical requirements for running the project have not yet been assessed.
10:A proposed school courtyard tree-planting trial received support from 36 of 50 voluntary survey respondents, or 72 percent. This suggests interest among those who answered, although 14 preferred the existing open space. The figures do not represent the views of every student. However, a preference survey cannot establish whether the project is safe and sustainable. The school has not estimated watering costs, checked underground services or reviewed wheelchair access. Before moving from proposal to action, the council should develop a maintenance and accessibility plan. The two paragraphs therefore support further investigation, not immediate approval of planting.
11:Some trial volunteers found digital checklists easier to update.
12:Eighteen of twenty-five volunteers, or 72 percent, reported easier updates.
13:Paragraph B focuses on privacy and access requirements.
14:Before adopting it, the school must consider privacy and accessibility.
15:At the same time, convenience should not be evaluated separately from data protection.
16:The trial did not measure examination results.
17:The reported convenience makes the tool worth considering, but collecting named homework records creates a separate privacy question.
18:Access restrictions have been proposed but not approved.
19:The school should review safeguards and a printable alternative before any final implementation decision.
20:A small trial suggests that a digital homework checklist may be convenient: 18 of 25 volunteers found it easier to update than paper. However, the trial did not test examination outcomes or represent all students. A decision about implementation requires another kind of evidence. The proposed system would store names and completion dates, while access restrictions remain unapproved. Some families may also need printed information. For these reasons, the school should not treat convenience alone as proof that the system is ready. It should assess privacy safeguards and access needs before deciding whether to introduce the tool.
解説:howeverとfor these reasonsを測定値と実施条件に結び付ける。
21:It measured willingness to join a proposed walking group.
22:Twenty-six respondents selected yes.
23:Sixty-five percent selected yes.
24:It adds supervision, route and meeting-point requirements.
25:Nevertheless, expressed interest does not mean that a safe walking route has already been arranged.
26:The survey did not measure changes in health or fitness.
27:What would the school need to arrange before an optional walking trial could begin?
28:No adult supervision roster has been approved.
29:A majority of volunteers expressed interest, but the school must assess accessibility and safety before a trial.
30:A fictional survey found that 26 of 40 volunteers, or 65 percent, would consider joining an optional morning walking group. Nine declined and five were unsure. These figures measure willingness, not improvements in health or fitness, and the survey did not examine participants’ routes to school. Nevertheless, interest is only one part of the decision. The planning note calls for suitable routes, adult supervision and a safe meeting point, none of which has been fully approved. The school should assess those conditions before organising a trial. It would be premature to promise that the activity would benefit every student.
31:The estimated first-year digital cost was lower by 15,000 yen.
32:The printed option was estimated at 60,000 yen and the digital option at 45,000 yen.
33:No. It only compares first-year estimates.
34:Renewal, technical-support and printed-alternative costs are unestimated.
35:However is suitable because the second paragraph limits the first-year comparison.
36:Yet the lower first-year estimate does not establish the lower cost over several years.
37:The digital option had a lower estimated first-year cost, but its long-term cost is unknown.
38:It should include maintenance, renewal, technical support and access alternatives.
39:A decision should follow a longer-term estimate and a review of students’ access needs.
40:The English department estimated first-year costs of 60,000 yen for printed practice materials and 45,000 yen for a digital platform serving the same group. On that limited basis, the digital estimate was lower by 15,000 yen. Neither amount was a payment already made. However, the first-year comparison does not establish which option would cost less over several years. Platform renewal, technical assistance and printed alternatives may create additional expenses, but the department has not estimated them. Before deciding, the school should calculate a comparable three-year budget and assess reliability and access. A lower initial price is useful evidence, not a complete cost comparison.
