Evaluation Essay
Evaluation Paragraph
Original evaluation brief: A fictional school considered opening a twenty-four-seat study room for an extra hour on Fridays. On one afternoon, twenty occupied seats were recorded at 4 p.m. Library staff estimated that two adult supervisors would be needed, but their cost was not calculated. No waiting time, after-5-p.m. demand or transport-safety assessment was recorded. The principal had not approved the proposed trial. The evaluation task is to examine usefulness, feasibility and safety without claiming that the plan is already successful.
問1:State the subject of this Evaluation Essay.
問2:Name three reasonable evaluation criteria.
問3:What numerical evidence suggests possible demand?
問4:Calculate the observed seat occupancy to one decimal place.
問5:Why is this not proof of demand for an extra hour?
問6:What staffing requirement is known?
問7:Can the essay report a verified total operating cost?
問8:Write a qualified judgment considering the evidence.
問9:Recommend one practical next evaluation step.
問10:Write an 85–120-word evaluation paragraph.
Original evaluation brief: A fictional festival organiser proposed replacing every printed map with QR-code posters. A voluntary preference survey received fifty responses: thirty preferred digital maps, fifteen preferred paper and five were undecided. No visitor-navigation success test had been conducted. The design team could update an online map quickly, but the school did not know whether all visitors would have suitable devices or reliable internet access. Printing and technology-maintenance costs had not been compared. The school administration had not approved the change. The essay should evaluate clarity, accessibility, cost and evidence quality.
問11:Identify the evaluated policy.
問12:List four possible evaluation criteria.
問13:Calculate the proportion favouring digital maps.
問14:What proportion did not express a digital preference?
問15:What benefit of digital maps was identified?
問16:Why might accessibility be a concern?
問17:Does the survey establish which format helps visitors find rooms?
問18:Can the evaluator compare total implementation costs from the available data?
問19:Write a justified preliminary recommendation.
問20:Write an 85–120-word Evaluation Essay paragraph.
Original evaluation brief: A fictional school demonstrated an automated writing-feedback tool to thirty volunteers. Twenty-four said that immediate comments sounded useful. The tool was not used in a controlled study of writing outcomes. Teachers noticed that some sample feedback could change a student’s intended meaning, but the total error rate was not measured. The school had not established a privacy policy for storing student drafts, and not all students had the same access to suitable devices. Costs and long-term learning outcomes were unknown. A teacher-reviewed voluntary pilot, with a teacher-led alternative, was being considered.
問21:What is the proposal being evaluated?
問22:Choose evaluation criteria that cover more than speed.
問23:How many of the demonstration viewers expected rapid feedback to be useful?
問24:Calculate that proportion.
問25:Does this prove improvement in final writing scores?
問26:What specific accuracy risk did teachers notice?
問27:What privacy information was missing?
問28:Which condition supports equitable access during a pilot?
問29:Write a provisional evaluation judgment.
問30:Write a balanced evaluation paragraph.
Original evaluation brief: A fictional school ran two optional lunchtime English reading sessions. The first recorded ten attendances and the second fifteen. A student could attend both sessions, so unique participants were not counted. The organisers did not measure reading scores, satisfaction, classroom availability or staff workload. The student council proposed weekly sessions, while a teacher suggested gathering more information before committing to a permanent schedule. The evaluation question is whether existing evidence supports permanent adoption or only a longer limited trial.
問31:State what is being evaluated.
問32:List three relevant evaluation criteria.
問33:State the two observed attendance counts.
問34:Calculate the change in recorded attendances.
問35:Does that show that five new students joined?
問36:Were reading scores measured?
問37:Name one operational uncertainty.
問38:What did the student council propose?
問39:Write a cautious judgment.
問40:Write a criteria-based evaluation paragraph.
1:The essay evaluates a proposed one-hour Friday study-room extension.
2:Usefulness, feasibility and safety.
3:Twenty of twenty-four seats were occupied at 4 p.m. on one day.
4:The recorded occupancy was approximately 83.3 percent.
5:It measures seat use at 4 p.m., not demand after 5 p.m.
6:The proposal would require two adult supervisors.
7:No. The staffing cost has not been calculated.
8:The proposal is worth exploring, but it is not yet ready for unconditional approval.
9:The school should estimate staffing costs and check safe departures before a limited trial.
10:The proposed Friday study-room extension may be useful, but its feasibility and safety remain uncertain. One spot check found that twenty of twenty-four seats were occupied at 4 p.m., suggesting considerable use at that moment. Yet no observation measured demand during the proposed extra hour. Staff identified a need for two adult supervisors, while their cost and the safety of later departures were not assessed. I therefore regard the proposal as promising rather than ready for permanent adoption. The school should examine staffing, access and transport arrangements before considering a short supervised pilot. This judgment reflects the limited evidence instead of assuming that the plan will succeed.
11:Replacing every printed festival map with QR-code posters.
12:Clarity, accessibility, cost and quality of evidence.
13:Sixty percent of survey respondents preferred digital maps.
14:Forty percent preferred paper or were undecided.
15:Online maps could be corrected quickly.
16:Some visitors may lack a suitable device or reliable internet access.
17:No. It measured stated preferences, not navigation success.
18:No. Printing and maintenance costs were not compared.
19:Keep a printed alternative and test navigation and access before considering full replacement.
20:The QR-only map proposal has a potential advantage in update speed, but it has not yet satisfied the criteria of accessibility, cost and demonstrated usability. Thirty of fifty voluntary survey respondents preferred digital maps, although fifteen preferred paper and five were undecided. This survey measured preferences rather than whether visitors could reach their destinations. The organisers also lacked evidence about device access and comparative costs. For these reasons, replacing every printed map would be premature. A limited trial using both formats could test actual navigation while giving visitors an accessible choice. The school administration should make a final decision only after reviewing those findings.
21:A possible school trial of automated writing feedback.
22:Feedback accuracy, learning outcomes, privacy, equity and cost.
23:Twenty-four of thirty volunteers expected it to be useful.
24:It was 80 percent of the demonstration viewers.
25:No. There was no controlled learning-outcome study.
26:Some suggested corrections could alter the student’s intended meaning.
27:The school had not established a policy for storing student drafts.
28:Keep a teacher-led feedback option available for students without suitable devices.
29:The tool merits a carefully reviewed voluntary test, but immediate school-wide adoption lacks sufficient evidence.
30:The automated writing tool could provide faster feedback, but speed alone is not a sufficient evaluation criterion. Twenty-four of thirty demonstration viewers expected immediate comments to be useful, yet the school had no controlled evidence of better final writing. Teachers identified possible inaccuracies, and the system’s storage rules, costs and equitable access were unresolved. I would therefore support only a small voluntary pilot with teacher review and a teacher-led alternative. The school should measure correction accuracy and actual learning outcomes while protecting student information. Wider adoption would require evidence that benefits outweigh these unresolved risks and operating demands.
31:Whether an optional reading club should become a permanent weekly activity.
32:Participation, possible learning value and operational feasibility.
33:Ten and fifteen attendance events were recorded.
34:The second session recorded five more attendances, a 50 percent increase.
35:No. Individual repeat attendance was not tracked.
36:No. Reading outcomes were not assessed.
37:Staff workload or room availability was not evaluated.
38:The council proposed weekly sessions.
39:A longer voluntary trial is better supported than immediate permanent weekly sessions.
40:The two reading sessions suggest some interest in the activity, but the evidence is insufficient for a permanent weekly schedule. Recorded attendances rose from ten to fifteen, a 50 percent increase, although the number of different students is unknown. The organisers have not measured reading outcomes, satisfaction, room availability or staff workload. Participation counts alone therefore provide only a partial basis for evaluating usefulness and feasibility. I would recommend a longer voluntary trial that records repeat visitors, asks for feedback and checks operational demands. A decision about permanent sessions should follow this evaluation rather than assume that higher attendance proves academic benefit.
