代表することと全員の賛成は同じではない
She spoke on behalf of the students.は生徒を代表して話したことです。一方、Nine students were in favor of the plan.は9人が計画に賛成したことです。代表者が会議に出たからといって全員が提案を支持したことにはなりません。
for the sake ofとon account ofは目的と原因を表しやすい
We changed the route for the sake of safety.は「安全を守るため」という目的を示し、The event was postponed on account of the storm.は嵐が延期の原因になったことを示します。意味が近づく場面もありますが、行動の意図と実際の原因を区別すると正確に伝わります。
in favor ofの後は名詞・動名詞
We were in favor of extending the discussion.のofは前置詞なので、後ろの動詞は-ing形です。in favor to extendではありません。英国英語ではfavourという綴りも使います。
