使い分けの注意：afraid to doとafraid of doingは意味が重なり、どちらも可能な文脈があります。afraid toは行動をためらうこと、afraid of doingは行動・結果を恐れることに焦点を置く場合が多いという傾向です。「片方だけが必ず正しい」と誤解しないようにしましょう。Cambridge Grammar｜Afraid。

be afraid of -ingとbe afraid to doを文型で確認
- afraidは通常be／seem／feelなどの後ろに置きます。『an afraid student』より『a frightened student』が一般的です。
- ofは前置詞なので後ろに名詞か動名詞-ingを置きます：afraid of losing a file。
- to不定詞はto＋動詞原形です：afraid to admit a mistake。
- that節なら主語・動詞が入ります：afraid that the answer might be wrong。
- I’m afraid I can’t …は必ずしも心理的な恐怖ではなく、丁寧な断りを表します。
