最初に覚える4つの語順
- something interesting：何か面白いもの（形容詞がsomethingの後ろ）。
- anything else：ほかに何か（elseはanythingの後ろ）。
- somewhere quiet to study：静かな勉強場所（somewhere＋quiet＋to study）。
- nothing to worry about：心配することは何もない（worry aboutのaboutを残す）。
a beautiful bookとsomething beautifulは語順が違う
a beautiful book では形容詞beautifulが名詞bookの前に置かれます。一方、something beautifulではbeautifulが不定代名詞の後ろに置かれます。日本語の『美しい何か』を直訳してbeautiful somethingとするのではなく、英語の語順を確かめましょう。
something cold to drinkを分解する
somethingは対象、coldはその性質、to drinkは何に使うものかを説明します。something to drink coldは『冷たい飲み物』という基本の意味を伝える語順として適切ではありません。
疑問文・否定文のsome／anyも確認
Do you have anything else? やI don’t have anything else. のように、一般的な疑問文・否定文ではanythingがよく使われます。ただしWould you like something to drink?のような申し出ではsomethingも自然です。some／anyを疑問符だけで機械的に決めないことが重要です。

Students at a fictional middle school prepared a short English exhibition. Ken needed something useful to read before writing his introduction, so he checked a school-approved guide. Hana wanted something interesting to show visitors, but the teacher asked her to avoid copying protected images without permission. The students decided to draw their own simple diagrams instead.
The class also needed somewhere quiet to practise its speeches. The music room was being used for another activity, so the group asked whether they could meet somewhere else. Yui looked for someone experienced to help the speakers practise pronunciation. A teacher offered advice, and the group planned a short rehearsal.
