Class 2A prepared the report. The title is After-School Study Report. It was prepared on July 4. ④What it supports:何を言えるか。The average was three minutes shorter.

According to the report, …は「その資料によると」、In my opinion, …

Fictional Source A: ‘Library Notice’, published by the school library on April 3. The notice says: ‘The library closes at 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.’ Fictional Source B: ‘Updated Library Notice’, published by the same library on April 8. It says: ‘From April 10, the library will close at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On the other weekdays, it will still close at 5:00 p.m.’ A student writing on April 9 should explain that the later hours begin on April 10, not April 8. These two notices do not explain whether the new hours will remain in place forever. All dates, notices, and institutions in this exercise are fictional.

Fictional Source C: ‘Reading Habits Survey’, a class report prepared on May 12. Thirty students were invited to answer one question about reading after school. Twenty-four returned the form. Of these twenty-four respondents, fifteen said they read for fun at least twice a week, and nine said they did not. The remaining six students did not answer, so their reading habits are unknown. The report did not ask every student at the school. Its authors suggested a new reading event, but the school had not approved any event when the report was written. The report’s figures are invented for this English exercise.

Fictional Source D: Interview notes written by a school newspaper team on June 6. The team interviewed a student, Riku, about a science display. Riku said exactly, ‘We learned that checking the numbers was as important as making the poster.’ The team confirmed the wording with Riku and received permission to quote this sentence in the school paper. Riku did not say that the display won a prize. The team’s own comment was: ‘We think the display was interesting because it explained a problem clearly.’ A news article should identify which words were Riku’s and which were the team’s opinion. These are invented interview notes and not the words of a real person.

Fictional Source E: ‘After-School Study Report’, prepared by Class 2A on July 4. The team observed two practice sessions. Session A had ten students, and their average completion time was eighteen minutes. Session B had ten different students, and their average completion time was fifteen minutes. The groups used the same set of puzzles but were not made up of the same students. The chart title is ‘Average Puzzle Time in Two Practice Sessions’. The vertical axis is labeled ‘Minutes’, and the horizontal axis is labeled ‘Session A / Session B’. The team did not measure the students’ previous puzzle experience. A careful chart caption should describe the difference but not claim that a quieter room alone caused it. The report, sessions and results are fictional.

  1. Q31. What is the report’s title?
  2. Q32. Who prepared it?
  3. Q33. When was it prepared?
  4. Q34. How many students were in Session A?
  5. Q35. How many were in Session B?
  6. Q36. What was Session A’s average time?
  7. Q37. What was Session B’s average time?
  8. Q38. What is the difference in average time?
  9. Q39. What information was not measured?
  10. Q40. Write a source-based caption with a limitation.
  1. Q31. After-School Study Report.
  2. Q32. Class 2A.
  3. Q33. On July 4.
  4. Q34. Ten.
  5. Q35. Ten different students. — B

  8. Q38. Three minutes. — 18−15=3分。
  9. Q39. Students’ previous puzzle experience. —
  10. Q40. According to the fictional Class 2A report, Session B’s average time was three minutes shorter than Session A’s. The report does not prove why the difference occurred.

Source-based fact: According to the fictional class survey, fifteen of the twenty-four respondents read for fun at least twice a week. Personal opinion: In my opinion, a school reading event could be useful. Important limit: The survey did not ask every student at the school.

According toとIn my opinionは同じですか?

According toは情報の出所を明示し、In my opinionは自分の考えを示します。
